Stucco "Marmarine" in interior design

Since ancient times, Venetian stucco was considered the most complicated version of wall decoration, the price of which was affordable only for the elite. The past centuries and technological progress made, of course, their own corrections: both in the formulation of solutions and in the technology of their application.

It is not surprising that the Italian product “Marmorino” - decorative plaster, as they say, for all tastes, occupies a leading position in the world market of finishing materials. It is about it that will be discussed further: we will talk about the properties and assortment of this plaster, about the most popular decorative effects among the people.

To understand the ways of their creation, the video in this article on the topic: “Marmorino plaster” will help us.

The beauty and practicality of textured plaster

Though venetian plasters originate from antiquity, interest in them does not weaken even now. You could even say the other way around - in our time it has increased tremendously. The reason for this is the more affordable cost of the material, and the ability to apply it with your own hands.

How exactly is this done? You will find out about this by familiarizing yourself with the material we submitted.

So:

  • Marmorino decorative plaster, as well as texture mixtures from other manufacturers, differs from the ancient Roman “Venetian” in composition and method of application, like heaven and earth. In those days, marble dust mixed with lime was used to cover the walls, receiving mainly imitation of marble.

  • A little later, Italian artists began to hone their skills, drawing drawings on raw plaster, and many of these frescoes have survived to this day. Today, people have learned to create even such plasters that imitate marble without the participation of marble itself - it is often replaced by other types of stone, white cement and polymer additives.
  • The natural texture of marble is far from the only role model. Modern texture solutions, including Marmorino decorative plaster, represent an incredibly wide range of colors and textures, allowing you to stylize the surface of the wall with silk and velvet, leather and wood, aged plaster and concrete. One of the options wall decoration design, you can see in the presented photo.

  • Plasters from the company San Marco, which include the Marmorino series, are represented by an equally wide assortment, and a little later we will offer a small overview on it. Most of the modern Venetian plasters allow you to create relief coatings. They look much better than smooth ones, and even more practical - in any case, in residential premises.

Note! The relief created on the coating allows you to hide minor wall defects, thereby reducing the cost of their alignment. Plasters of this series are white or already tinted mortar of increased resistance, with a relief, which is due to the fraction of the mineral filler.

As a binder, they use polymer resins: silicone, latex or acrylic, which make the coatings resistant to moisture and mechanical stress, and increase their service life.Despite the fact that the effect of a particular plaster is “programmed” by the manufacturer, the final result depends not only on the fillers present in the mixture, but also on the tool used by the master. But what are these effects, you will tell you further.

Decorative effects

So, the theme of our story was a series of Marmorino plasters from a well-known Italian manufacturer, the company San Marco. In this chapter we will talk about the most popular decorative effects that can be obtained through their use, as well as pay attention to the technology of textured coatings.

Effect of aged walls

Today, the effect of antiquity in its popularity is ahead of even the imitation of marble recognized by all. What to do if it is very beautiful! Stucco "Peter Marmorino" is focused on creating a coating that resembles the surface of rough stone in texture. Moreover, it can be used not only for internal work, but also on the facade. Any decorative coating has a multilayer structure, so texture plasters are usually sold as a set.

In this case, it is:

  • Primer (primer) - colorless concentrate
  • Basic composition - dry mix
  • Glaze coating

All components of the kit, to one degree or another, are diluted with water before use, and the manufacturer's instructions give clear instructions on this. The desired degree of saturation of the shade is achieved in a combination of base and glaze composition, which, although tinted, has a translucent structure.

So:

  • Before you start decorating the wall, its surface must be properly prepared. The basis for applying Marmorino Petra plaster may be a traditional plaster screed: cement, gypsum, mixed, polymer-modified. It can also be applied on smooth concrete surfaces, drywall.
  • The degree of preparation of the base should correspond to the concept of “for painting” (see How to prepare walls for painting) - that is, to be even and smooth. To obtain high-quality coating, certain conditions must be observed: the base must be dry, air temperature from +10, normal humidity (not more than 70%).

  • The process of applying plaster looks like this. After the base has been polished and dust has been removed from it, a primer is applied to it, which must dry for at least seven hours. After this time, the first layer of the base is applied to the primed wall with a trowel, and left for a day until completely hardened.
  • Then a second layer of plaster is applied: you need to do this quickly, from wall to wall, in order to avoid the formation of ugly joints. While it still retains ductility, an uneven relief is performed on the screed.
  • It can be applied both with the help of special textured rollers, and with the help of improvised items: a hard plastic brush, comb, or a metal dishcloth. Watch the video and understand how to do it. About twenty minutes later, when the coating layer is slightly set, the screed can be smoothed out, bringing the protrusions of the plaster to gloss.

After this, you will have to wait another day until the plaster finally dries, and only then can the glaze be diluted and applied with a sponge to the surface. Where unsightly stains are obtained, it is possible and necessary to wash with water, for which purpose it should always be at hand.

Imitation marble texture

Plaster "Marmorino classic" is focused on creating a colored decorative coating that imitates marble. Unlike the previous version, it is a ready-to-use composition that does not need to be diluted with water.

It should only be tinted, for which manufacturers offer special pigment compounds:

  • In order to get an additional effect, you can also use decorative paints of the same manufacturer - for example: Aquasil Velatura. Special preparations and specialized tools, not counting the trowel, are not required for work - you just need to make every effort and strictly follow the manufacturer's recommendations.

  • Surface preparation for applying Marmorino Classic plaster is carried out in the traditional way. To prepare the base for plastering, a primer is used acrylic, deep penetration. Unlike the previous version of Peter, here the relief is formed already on the first layer. It can be waves, diagonal broaches, chaotic strokes, which can be done with a regular paint brush.
  • After 5-6 hours, without waiting for complete hardening, you can apply the second layer, trying to fill in the bumps - although, small crinkles can be left. Still plastic plaster can be slightly “disturbed” with the touches of a hard sponge, trying to repeat the emerging pattern of the first layer. When you need a deeper relief, you can also apply a third layer.

  • Then everything is done in the same way: after 20 minutes, the protruding surfaces of the plaster are smoothed with a trowel, and after complete drying, tinting is done. When the plaster is tinted throughout the mass, then at the final stage it is covered with a special acrylic fixative, which will protect the coating during operation from moisture and dirt.

If surface staining is to be carried out, then there is no need to worry about this. Decorative paints are made on the basis of xyloxane - a derivative of silicone, which in itself is an ideal protection for any surface.

The effect of porous stone

One of the most popular decorative coatings are plasters with the effect of porous stone or concrete. The company San Marco offers its own version of creating such an effect - “Travertino” plaster. Its name speaks for itself: there is a natural stone with the same name, which has a porous structure - that’s what it is in this case, a role model.

So:

  • This plaster substitutes a dry mixture, which includes granules of lime, marble chips with a fraction of up to 1 mm, quartz sand, and, of course, a polymer base. Such a composition ideally contributes to the creation of the texture of such an interesting breed as travertine. Conditions for applying "Travertino" - refers to the temperature, humidity and quality of the substrate, similar to those mentioned above.

  • Since the final coating has a porous structure, it perfectly decorates small roughnesses on the wall - so there is no need to grind the base before applying the plaster. But of course, she will not be able to cope with serious shortcomings - therefore, she will have to first align the base.

Note! For work, you will also need a primer (primer), and a finish wax coating. It is desirable to purchase all this from one manufacturer, since the mismatch of materials based on them can contribute to chemical incompatibility and peeling of screeds.

  • It is advisable to tint the primer before application in a shade close to the main color. Naturally, the plaster itself is tinted - for this, the corresponding toner is used, added approximately 100 ml per kilogram or liter of the tinted composition.

  • Before you start plastering over the entire area of the wall, it is advisable to make a probe, and see what you get - you may have to add color. The layers of plaster should be thin, not more than 1 mm, and the total thickness of the coating does not exceed 5 mm. Each subsequent layer is applied no earlier than 6-8 hours after the previous one.
  • Imitation of the travertine surface is obtained due to the impact on another plastic layer of plaster with any tool: the same trowel, a paint swab or a silicone roller. In this case, a larger filler in the solution moves, forming pores on the surface of the screed.

After it hardens, the convex particles are ground, and only the pores remain. Then the surface is cleaned of dust, and proceed to the application of a protective wax coating. By the way, it is precisely this that gives that unique luster and charm to the finished coating.
