Decoration options
For interior decoration can use any modern material.
It is quite suitable:
- Wood.
- Natural or fake diamond.
- Siding or plastic panels.
- Ceramic tile.
- decorative plaster or drywall and other materials.
Note.
Every person in his life tries to use environmentally friendly materials to decorate his home. For this reason, wall decoration in the interior has recently become very popular.
Wood for interior decoration
This material is not only environmentally friendly, but also durable. It has high strength and excellent properties.
Wood breathes, which means it can freely pass air. Withstands enormous loads, and at the same time its structure is not deformed.
Wood wall decoration is distinguished by its originality.
In such works, you can use:
- Wooden lining.
- Eurolining, which differs from the previous one by the design methods.
- Processed log or its imitation (block house).
- Ordinary wooden boards that are well treated with antiseptic agents, but on their surface in some places have the remains of bark for decorating the room.
The advantages of wood in decorating
Wood has good properties and characteristics.
For decoration, coniferous and deciduous species of certain trees can be used:
- Oak.
- The Red tree.
- Birch (soft material).
- Ash.
- Pine.
- Spruce.
- Cedar and other tree species.
Characteristics of wood materials:
- Wall decoration under the log is carried out by a block house or ordinary natural material. On the one hand, the block house has a perfectly flat surface, on the other, in appearance it resembles a rounded beam.
- The price of natural materials such as wood is too high and this does not make it possible to apply this method of decoration everywhere. Quite often, wood is used in combination with plastered walls.
Looks great with natural or decorative stone. - It is not necessary to decorate all surfaces in a room with a tree. Often there is wood trim in living rooms or fireplace rooms, the design creates a cozy atmosphere.
Tip. This type of material should not be used in rooms with high humidity, as it is able to absorb moisture quite easily despite its high-quality and lengthy processing.
- If there is a desire to protect the surface of the material from wood, then it is varnished. It will not allow moisture to penetrate into the structure of the wood and thereby increase its life.
Mounts material on any surface. Only for this you need to conduct a series of preparatory work on it.
Surface preparation for installation of wood finishing material
This is not to say that you can mount wood on a simple surface. It is only worth considering that this material breathes and that is why on any surface a lath is made for it, which will create an air cushion and will make it possible to use the wood finish for a longer period.
To make the crate you will need:
- Planks of wood of the same thickness.
- Dowels for fixing the main guides on the surface;
- Hammer drill.
- Wood screws for fastening all the elements of this design.
- Construction level for accurate and even construction of the crate on the surface.
- Saw or jigsaw for cutting the right size.
- Pencil and ruler.
Installation:
- First, vertical wooden planks are mounted on the surface with dowels and a punch, which will carry a bearing function.
- Then horizontal strips are attached to them with screws and a screwdriver, thus creating a crate. There is nothing complicated in this type of work, and it’s not difficult to carry out all the actions yourself.
- After that, the material itself is mounted on the crate. This can be done with self-tapping screws with decorative hats or nails.
- The choice depends on the weight of the wood finish.
Tip.
If a rather massive finishing material from wood is mounted on the crate, then it is most rational to use self-tapping screws with long legs and large hats. If the weight of the finish is small, then you can do with standard small nails.
- During the finishing work with wood, it is possible to perform home insulation. For this, a heater is taken, which is produced in mats and has a rather dense structure: polystyrene foam, polyurethane foam, polystyrene foam.
To work with them you will need:
- Stationery knife.
- Ruler and pencil.
- Construction glue (if necessary).
Tip. Apply building glue only if the insulation material in the cells is not tight.
It is applied to the surface of the wall and to the back of the insulation. That is, stick it to the surface.
Installation:
- All distances between the insulation and the battens cells for greater tightness of the finishing work can be filled with polyurethane foam, on the packaging of which there is a special instruction for use.
- Foam should not be much, since after drying it has the ability to expand and increase in volume. Its surpluses are cut off with a clerical or ordinary kitchen knife.
Tip. Such actions are performed only a day after the application of foam. During this time, the product has already dried.
- These types of material are very easy to cut and process.
- Using a clerical knife, the dimensions of the insulation are cut, which correspond to the size of the cells of the crate.
- The resulting elements are closely inserted into the cells of the frame.
- But here it is worth considering that if insulation work is still being carried out, it means that the wooden finish will be without the necessary air cushion.
Therefore, on top of the first crate, a second of the same size is mounted using the same material and tool.
Installation of wood finishes
Since wood has a dense structure in any finishing material, its installation must be carried out using all the usual tools.
So, you will need:
- Screwdriver and hammer.
- Wood screws or nails.
- Construction glue.
- Sealant.
Works:
- The material is mounted on the crate either with self-tapping screws or with nails.
- This choice depends on the weight of the material itself.
- Construction glue is used only if thin layers of wood are used in the decoration.
All joints of the material must be treated with sealant so that moisture does not get under the finish. Because of it, fungal diseases can begin to develop.
Decorative and natural stone in the decoration of the room
Finishing the interior walls under the stone began to be found quite often. It looks original and can give the room uniqueness and is made either with natural agglomerate or with artificial stone.
By their properties, these two types of material have practically no special differences. The main difference is the price.
On the decorative rock the cost is several times lower than on natural material. The appearance of artificial stone is very similar to natural material.
There are various simulations:
- Marble
- Granite
- Sandstone.
- Onyx and other material.
The use of one or another type of decorative stone depends on the functionality of the room. Let's say the marbled walls in a fireplace room or living room look good.
Although it is not too attractive to use it in the sleeping area.
Properties of artificial stone
Decorative stone is reliable and practical. Its surface does not absorb various contaminants and dust.
It is able to withstand significant temperature extremes.
Made from:
- Gypsum.
- Acrylic
- Synthetic substance.
The surface of artificial stone can be:
- Matt
- Glossy.
- Torn or embossed and so on.
- They are necessarily covered with a special protective agent.
- Installation of decorative stone is very simple.
Surface mount artificial stone
DIY stone wall decoration begins with surface preparation. It should be smooth and well cleaned.
You can level the surface with drywall, which is mounted on a metal profile frame or with plaster, which has a number of works for its application.
Note. Be sure each type of surface must be primed.
To install decorative stone you need:
- Glue or cement mortar.
- Capacity for mixing them.
- Construction mixer.
- Level to check the correct location of the stone slabs on the surface.
- Tile cutter for cutting material.
- Decorative putty for masking seams.
Stages:
- Initially, glue or mortar is applied to the surface and it needs to be given a little time to stay on the surface. The first layer should be absorbed a little for greater durability of the finish.
- Also, this tool is applied to the back of the stone. Do not smear it over the entire inner surface of the material.
It will be enough to apply it in the very center, and during installation it will be evenly distributed on different sides. - Each such finishing element needs to be fastened using a level to ensure even bonding of the material.
- You can mount a decorative stone in a joint, or at the same small distance, which will subsequently be masked with a decorative putty.
