Venetian textured plaster has long been used for decoration. She already has quite a few fans. Today we will consider what types of textured Venetian plaster are and instructions will be offered on the rules for applying it. Also in the video in this article you can find out a lot about this type of decoration.

Kind of plaster

There are several types of plaster on sale:

  • Ready to eat, most often it is made on the basis of synthetic resin;
  • Dry mix;
  • Decorative, is intended for internal work, as well as to create a different coating (bark beetle (see Decorative plaster bark beetle: material features), Venetian and so on).

Attention: The result that can be achieved with the use of the finished and dry mix is the same, if we are not talking about special cases. When working with finished plaster, less time is required that is spent on the preparation stage and is often used when applying the decorative layer on its own.

The situation is completely different if work is carried out with specially prepared decorative composition. Here the technique of applying the material is predetermined in advance and if these rules are violated, then the expected final result will not work.

What tools will be needed

If you decide to apply the decorative option to the walls, then the technology for applying this coating requires the use of the following set:

  • Capacity in which the composition will be diluted;
  • A half;
  • Trowel;
  • Spatulas;
  • Brushes, bath, roller, brushes;
  • Drill equipped with mixer tip.

Attention: It is best to use the forged tool made of stainless steel during operation. The thing is that ordinary steel will leave small spots of rust on the surface, which cannot be eliminated later.

Methods for producing decorative plaster

The methods described, of course, are not limited to a list of how plaster can be created. In specialized stores you can find ready-made mixtures, and each of them has its own special method of application.

  • For example, Venetian plaster is determined not by the composition of the material, but by the application option. Moreover, the specific method is intended specifically for the Venetian. The same applies to bark beetle plaster. The original pattern, which is obtained as a result, is due to both the method of application and the composition of the material.
  • In any case, from a review of the most diverse options for creating a relief coating, it can be concluded that the surfaces that can be obtained using decorative plaster and various application technologies will become a true decoration of every home and will fit into any interior without any problems.

Do-it-yourself stucco

As for the technique of work, it is worth stopping your attention at one point - a clear sequence of actions. If you follow all the rules, you can safely say that the solution to this issue will not cause much trouble.

The sequence of work is as follows:

  • At the very beginning there is a stage of preparation;
  • Then basic;
  • Create invoices;
  • The final work.

Each of them has its own characteristics.

Stage number 1

Attention: Any version of the plaster must be applied only on a flat and smooth surface. Therefore, do not forget that priming is an essential step. It is best to use a deep penetration mixture, but the wall should be absolutely dry.

  • Some of the species textured plaster can be applied to a surface that has not been leveled in advance. But this can only be done in a situation where minor problems are observed on the wall.
  • If later it is planned to apply a layer of plaster, it is better to go with an acrylic primer. In addition, so that the base of the wall acquires maximum strength, you can use special mixtures for the primer.
  • When carrying out finishing work in a room where there is a high level of humidity, at the initial stage you need to treat everything with anti-fungal drugs. This will help at times increase resistance to the harmful effects of dampness.
  • Provided that if the surface needs to be puttied, it is better to repeat this procedure several times and apply more than one layer. Each of them will dry for about a day.
  • Experts do not recommend the use of finishing putty, which is made on the basis of alabaster or gypsum. This is due to the fact that such compounds will interfere with absorption, as a result of which further work will be difficult.

Caution: Before undertaking plastering the surface, it is best to pre-paint. Such actions will enable an objective assessment of the texture of the cladding and its color.

Second phase

Textured plaster can be applied in several layers. If we talk about the amount of material that will be needed, then we are talking about two kilograms of raw materials per square meter. Accordingly, if the coating will have several layers, then these numbers will grow.

  • White color is traditional for textured plasters. The color scheme, if desired by a person, can be completely changed. For this, there are special dyes. In rooms where there is a lot of humidity, it is necessary to use dyes with a moisture resistant base.
  • If we talk about the features of applying to the surface, then first a small portion of the mixture must be filled with a spatula and distributed over the trowel with an even layer. Then we put the tool against the wall and apply it at an angle of thirty degrees.

Attention: Do not immediately try to embrace a large area. A small area is very suitable for experiments, otherwise the plaster will dry out, and the final result may not satisfy the need.

  • Despite the fact that such a procedure is quite complicated, all work can be done in a short time period. This is due to the fact that textured plaster is an extremely malleable material and, if necessary, it can take any form.
  • Based on this, for the convenience of completing the task, use a simple paint roller. When working with such a tool, it is best to adhere to one direction in motion. The roller, by the way, can be replaced with a simple sponge.
  • After that, take a spatula and walk along the surface. This will help smooth out protruding elements and corners. Finished compositions intended for plastering have a low drying speed, so there is no need to rush. The material can be carefully distributed on the surface, as a result, the picture will turn out to be better.

Spray Method

The described technique is the simplest option with which to create a relief on a plastered surface.

Attention: Spraying is carried out in such a way - as soon as the first applied layer dries, the next one is applied. To get the invoice, use different tools (by the way, it can even be a simple broom).

It looks like this:

  • A broom is taken in one hand, a stick in the other. The first dips into the solution and hits the stick, as a result, the spray scatters on the wall. Flakes will begin to form on the surface of the plaster, whose size directly depends on the density of the mortar and the broom itself. The sprayed surface can be pre-painted, for example, blue, and the spots will be white.
  • Italian decoration is very similar to the method described above. In this case, almost all operations are repeated. As soon as the coating layer is applied and evened, do not wait for drying, but immediately proceed to the second, but of a different color. If the initial layer is green, the second will be yellow. When applying the second composition, make sure that it overlaps a significant part of the previous one. No need to give time to the material to harden.

How to give plaster volume

So that the applied drawing as a result meets all the requirements for texture, you can use different devices. Among other things, the technique of strokes, which are narrow or wide, with a large amplitude and vice versa, also affects the finished image.

Usually, in order to apply textured plaster to the wall, use:

Roller applicationDuring operation, it is best to use a roller with a pile. With its help, it is possible to create a surface with a completely finished pattern. In addition, rollers with ornaments are sold in construction stores and their use will greatly simplify all work. The use of such a tool makes it possible to reduce the cost of finishing materials.
How to use stampsThe work may come in handy so-called stamps on which there is already an ornament. When plastering a surface with such a device, it is important to monitor its cleanliness; regularly flush it with plain water. The kit includes sheets of rubber designed for drawing in hard-to-reach spots.
Putty knifeUsing a spatula, beautiful patterns can be applied to the wall. Only the author’s imagination will affect the result, which will be obtained at the very end.

Create a protective layer and decorate the surface.

At the very last stage, we are engaged in decorating, as well as creating a protection layer that will increase the strength characteristics and extend the life of the finishing material.

Attention: After plastering is completed, professionals are advised to carry out an additional primer, and if there is a need, then paint. It is better that it be applied in several layers, while the top should be light, and the bottom should be dark.

  • An excellent substitute for paint can be colored plaster. Do not forget that in this case colorless varnish is applied over it, which is a protection. Having done this, you can be sure that fungi or mold will not appear on the surface of the wall.
  • When undertaking such work, it is worthwhile to carefully study the topic, acquire the necessary tools, and strictly follow all the recommendations. Adhering to certain rules, it will be possible to achieve a good result that will delight you for more than one year.
