Types of textured plaster coatings
There are several main varieties of decorative plaster:
- Smooth surface with stains, as well as colored pigments;
- Plaster with any technique of embossing.
There are also differences in the material used.
Its composition may be of the following types:
Acrylic | Textured acrylic plaster is based on acrylic resins. It tolerates temperature extremes and high humidity. |
Mineral | The main component of the composition is cement. It is mainly used for external surfaces. It has good vapor permeability. |
Silicate | Here, the main component is water glass. But in this composition there is a significant drawback, in the sale of not a large number of flowers and this limits its use. |
Silicone | Here, the main component is silicone resin. Although its price is much higher than the previous ones, the quality of the coating fully covers the cost. |
Finishing the loggia with textured plaster and any room is done after careful preparation of the base plane. When working with decorative textured plaster (see How is the loggia decorated with decorative plaster), the main thing is to present the necessary result and implement it.
- If you decide in advance on the option of the necessary surface and design, then you can safely choose the tools and materials that will be required during the task.
- You can choose the design yourself by looking at a huge number of photos or you can contact a person engaged in design activities.
Attention: It is extremely important to consider that textured plaster retains moisture and dust more, therefore it is better to refuse such an option in the kitchen towards a smooth relief. Due to the increased humidity in the bathroom, the surface must be protected with polymers or varnishes.
- We level the wall and carefully primed. It is better to choose a primer with deep penetration and thoroughly dry the wall. Some types of plasters allow you to not notice irregularities, but eliminate significant differences in advance.
Tools
To carry out the work, you need to get the following set:
- Plastering trowel, ironing machine;
- A pair of spatulas (different sizes, for example, one ten centimeters, the second thirty);
- Corner spatula;
- Plumb, level, rule;
- Corner spatula.
Apply material
The application of any type of textured plaster should start with the distribution of the solution over its part or over the entire uniform layer.
So:
- Use a trowel to do this. One hundred percent accuracy can not be followed in the distribution, the main rule is uniform thickness, although in this case, minor errors are allowed.
- When choosing a layer thickness, it is necessary to focus on the desired end result and consult the instructions for the solution. Given the height of the drawings, you need to leave at least a half millimeter of the thickness of the solution under it.
- To understand on your own how to apply plaster, it is better to experiment on a small piece of drywall or a section of the wall.As a result, you will select the required thickness of the initial layer and the method of applying the picture.
- Ready solutions are made in such a way as to dry as slowly as possible, so that there is a temporary margin for the formation and uniform distribution of the texture.
Attention: When working with ordinary cement-gypsum or sand-cement mortar, it is better to think through all your steps in advance and divide the entire surface into zones that will be filled gradually.
We give the invoice
Depending on the desired end result, as well as the tools that are used in the work, the application technology is different. Video texture plaster will tell you about the variety of textures used.
To give the invoice use the following set:
Roller | In this case, even the most ordinary one will do. After using it, the surface will acquire a unique pattern. You can walk on top with a spatula, slightly smoothing the plaster.
|
Ready stamps | A drawing is displayed on the working surface of such a tool. Applying and pressing it against the wall, the drawing is transferred to the plaster.
|
Brush, trowel | Using a regular spatula, finishing with textured plaster can make the wall something incredibly beautiful.

Decoration and the final stage of work
As soon as you give the plaster texture, you need to take care of its protection and further design:
- At the very beginning, priming works are carried out (see Why do we need a primer: technological nuances of finishing work) After this step, you can apply one or more layers of paint.
- Decorative plaster can be made even more attractive, for this the relief is highlighted with paint. The entire surface is carefully painted in a darker shade using a brush or roller with a long pile for these purposes.
- As soon as the first layer dries, take a short-nap roller or regular rubber. This is necessary to apply a lighter color to the tops of the parts of the texture that protrudes.
- If such manipulations are not required or if a colored solution with pigments was used, the whole surface should still be covered with a layer of protection. In this case, colorless varnish is perfect.
- You can also apply paint, painting the textured plaster video you can see on this page.
Why do you need special formulations
As another option, you can use a variety of additions to the solution, which help in creating the one that you want.
- Initially, such a plaster is applied with a smoothing iron to the wall and left to seize.
- After we pass the grater over the entire surface. With its help, crumbs and granules are stretched throughout the solution, which creates furrows.You can resort to a more ordinary option, when the grater is carried out strictly in the horizontal or vertical direction. In this situation, the furrows will be located in parallel. You can also drive the grater along the trajectory of a large circle, which results in an interesting pattern.
- As an additional option, you can use not just hard granules, but soft ones that are filled with paint. The application method does not differ from the previous one, only in this case the granules are crushed, as a result of which the plaster acquires different colors.
- If you make the plaster solution more liquid, you can achieve the effect of smudges. More dense is suitable to form a tall pattern. But it is necessary to keep in mind the moment that the deeper the depth, the sooner the dust will settle.
- The standard finished plasters, which can be purchased on the construction markets, have a white color. Further it is opened with varnish or stained, colored pigments are also used. In order to select the desired color scheme, it is best to contact the representative of the solution manufacturer, as well, the instruction should be studied when purchasing, usually such information is given there.
- When working, take into account the change in shade after the solution dries. Having available the necessary color plaster or several options, you can diversify the composition. Most often, for simple solutions, painting is necessary, since it is extremely difficult to choose the right pigments.
- Do not forget that for all work, you must have some knowledge and skills. If you have not taken up such work before, it is better to trust the masters or work under their supervision.
If you do not want to do it yourself, then you can buy wallpaper for textured plaster. True to the issue of durability, they are significantly inferior to plaster. So watch the video in this article and photo and make your choice.
