- Almost absorbs odors;
- Reliable coating, which is characterized by vapor permeability;
- Decorative plaster can be applied to any surface.: metal, concrete walls, brick;
- The presence of various colors and options in the form of patternsimitated granite, marble, fabrics. Any client can create their own personal coverage option.
The composition of decorative coatings
Decorative coatings differ from each other in their various compositions.
However, each of them contains a number of identical components, which are:
- Binder, which serves to secure the material;
- Fillerwhich produces the desired effect with the help of sand, microcalcite, cellulose fiber and flocks;
- Waterwhich serves as a solvent;
- Excipientsthat give the decorative coating auxiliary properties. Such substances include biocides, additives, antifoams.
The basic composition of decorative coatings was compiled in the 80s of the last century. According to many professionals, decorative textured plaster is used by a huge number of people. Today, it can be stated with confidence that this is the most popular and used coating material.
Varieties of decorative coating
Anyone tired of work wants to go to a fairy tale, enjoy the tranquility and relax there. Decorative coating is such a fairy tale, which also has a unique design.
The following types of decorative plaster are distinguished:
Acrylic | Which is a reliable basis in relation to the external environment and almost does not pass pairs; |
Mineral | It consists of cement and does not pass vapor at all (see Mineral plaster: material features) Such a base is extremely resistant to any fires; |
Silicate | Consists of water glass. The advantage of such a base is a low degree of vapor permeability, and the disadvantage is a small assortment of colors; |
Silicone | It is created using silicone resin. Silicone coating has a high cost, which reflects the quality of the plaster. This coating is resistant to all types of contamination. |
Attention: You should take into account the fact that decorative plasters differ both in the field of their application and in the suitable climate. In this case, the coating is of three types: internal, external and universal.
Important decorative coating information
Before applying textured decorative plasters, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with the following information:
- The use of a liquid mass for painting is extremely inconvenient, since the mass cannot be diluted with water;
- Applying plaster on the wall with a special aggregate (crumb) is done manually;
- In the case of crumbs of different sizes, the process of applying the material is significantly complicated;
- Mixing plaster with water does not cause a lot of toxins, but it does a lot of damage to the environment.
The following is additional information that many experts advise to take into account before you start painting:
- If you apply the material to plastic, oil paint or polyurethane foam, it will dry for a long time. Applying the material to plaster or concrete involves less time;
- From the use of a decorative coating mixed with water, together with OSB and chipboard, wood and plywood can be damaged;
- In the case of an uneven or deformed surface, a thick layer of material must be applied. However, this will lead to additional costs of money;
- Rust can occur from applying material mixed with water to ferrous metal.
Note: Almost all varieties of decorative plasters harden in the same amount of time. Curing occurs within 3-5 hours, drying takes 1-1.5 days, and one hundred percent hardening comes in 7-9 days.
Within 2 days after painting, you should carefully monitor the condition of the surface. In particular, do not allow moisture and variable temperature to penetrate its base, as well as prevent damage.
Tidying up the surface
Decorative textured plaster is applied to a quality prepared surface. It is on this that the durability of the coating largely depends. To do this, it is enough to make them clean, dry, remove cracks and capacious damage.
Attention: Be sure to ground the walls with a special composition, after which a layer is formed between the base and the coating. Performing this action will reduce the likelihood of moisture entering the surface. In addition, the chance of deformations will be significantly reduced.
What type of primer will be used depends on the type of plaster. In case of plaster shedding or its weakness, it is necessary to treat the place with a special reinforcing agent. If the walls are covered with drywall (see Facing walls with drywall: do it sequentially), then before applying the coating should be treated with soil.
Before manufacturing the primer layer, you must familiarize yourself with the following information:
- The thickness of the primer should be between 2 cm and more;
- When smoothing, it is necessary to compact the primer layer;
- The primer should be wet for 7-12 days. To do this, it is enough to dip it with water twice or thrice a day.
Methods for applying a decorative coating
There are 2 ways to apply plaster: the use of stretching or spraying technology. Any of them can be done with your own hands. The compositions used are exactly the same, but the work technique is excellent. Below is a detailed instruction on two types of technologies.
Pull method
Coating involves the use of various tools, for example, brushes, blades, roller, spatula. To level the walls, many people resort to pulling them with plaster.
Such an action requires the use of a trowel or steel grater, which must be kept at an angle of 60 degrees with respect to the wall. After the solution ceases to adhere to the equipment, it will be possible to make a texture or pattern.
Below is a detailed instruction on how to independently perform various textured drawings:
- To get a wave pattern, you need to make special notches on a pre-shabby surface. Then wet the surface with water and apply the solution in strips on it. They can be straight, or in the form of zigzags. Waves form after smoothing the surface with a spatula;
- Before you make the texture of the boulders, you must apply the solution to the primer. After that, it needs to be leveled by a half, and then apply the miter technique. The brush used for this should be at an angle of 90 degrees. It is desirable that it be rigid, as this will make the boulders sharper;
- Drawing a travertine pattern involves spreading the solution onto the walls, and then smoothing it with a spatula;
- To perform a texture in the form of a furrow, you need to have a toothed fry with you, before you start working with which you need to sharpen it. Plaster is applied to the primer, which should be instantly smoothed by a half. After that, with the help of the malka, you can create furrows, the shape of which will directly depend on the teeth of the malka;
- You can make a fur coat using different methods: by spraying, brushing off the brush or by throwing it through the net. The composition should be applied in the same amount so that the texture is evenly coated;
- You can apply a related technology invoice using a panicle, which must be dipped in a liquid with a solution. After that, you need to properly manage the broom so that the solution on it is sprayed on the walls;
- To make the texture of cereal, you do not need to spend a lot of time. It is enough to make a spray using a liquid and plastic mass, after which drawings will appear on the surface in the form of flakes of different sizes;
- To make a texture in the form of a sponge, it is necessary to apply a solution of medium density to the primer and level it. After that, slowly apply a sponge to the wall.To avoid sticking the mixture to the sponge, you can moisten it in a soapy solution;
- If you have terrazite plaster, then it is perfect for creating strokes on it. This texture requires the use of a set solution. You can start working with plaster both after an hour, and after five hours. To create strokes, you must use a comb;
- To obtain a pattern in the form of a split stone, it is necessary to immerse the tongue in the hardened solution. Thanks to this, the pieces of the plaster will crack. This will give it the appearance of a coating with many recesses. These are the drawings of split stones.
Spraying method
Another coating method is spraying technology. It involves applying the mortar to slopes, decorative components, and surfaces that are complex in structure.
- The spraying technology works with plasters of various thicknesses, which is why there is an increase in the aesthetic effect. For example, when applying the solution to the main surface, a composition of 3 mm thick is used, and a 1 mm layer is used for decorative components.
- Before using this technology, you need to buy or rent a special device.
- Spray technology involves continuous operation on one wall, starting from the top. To stop the workflow, stick the adhesive tape next to the place where the last brushstroke of the decorative layer was done. To remove the pasted masking tape, it is necessary to form a decorative coating structure. Then you can continue applying the decorative coating.
Decorative plaster types of textures can be quite different. Here it is quite possible to apply ready-made dies or apply textures of decorative plasters with a simple spatula.
The price of both options is not high and it all depends on your desire and imagination. The most important thing is not in a hurry, and decorative textured plaster will serve you for many years and please the eye.
