Plaster mixes and manufacturing options
The requirements for the stucco mixture can be quite different. Basically, it all depends on the purpose of the room. Moreover, the right choice can save you money. This is especially true of the thermal insulation of the room.
Today we look at their varieties and look at the characteristics and you can choose the option you want. Also, in the video in this article and photo you will get pretty necessary and useful information.

We make the choice of plaster according to the characteristics
Any of the proposed types is completely applied with your own hands, from this the price of finishing will be significantly lower. But you need to choose the right material so that the effect of application is the highest.
Attention: Choosing a plaster mix, you need to think about where to cook it. After all, the supply of stucco is of great importance for large volumes of work. For example, gypsum is best prepared on the spot. She freezes pretty quickly.
Heat Shielding Plaster
This type of building material is designed to preserve heat in rooms of various types and purposes, as well as during the construction of certain communications.
So:
- For the best performance of its functions, it is manufactured using various optional materials, for example, hydromica or polystyrene. Another name for this type of plaster is “warm” (see Warm plaster: composition and features of use).
- Due to the content of the filler in it, which has a small mass and large dimensions, this type of plaster is considered quite light. It sets an excellent and comfortable climate indoors.
Attention: The good properties of its composition allow you not to use polystyrene at all to increase the waterproofing properties of the object. But in a living room, it will not help much, but it can complement the effect of thermal insulation.
Acoustic plaster
This type has the excellent property of reducing the noise level that falls into the property, therefore it is classified as specific.
- This type of building material is usually used in the construction of cinema buildings, stadiums and other similar objects.. They are simply necessary in the presence of a large number of objects of curvilinear shape, their task is to replace the sound system, if the latter cannot be installed additionally.
- In an ordinary apartment, acoustic plaster is also actively used.It absorbs high noise from tiles and other similar materials in MCD.
- Expanded clay or perlite is added to this plaster as optional fillers.. Its density is quite high and is in the region of 1000 kg / m, and, for example, whitewashing in this case will not be needed, because it increases the level of protection against loud sound.
Waterproofing plaster
This type of plaster is designed primarily to protect against excessive moisture and liquid, has excellent waterproofing characteristics, therefore it is used in the bathroom, toilet and other similar rooms. It consists of special organic substances (most often polymers).
- Particular attention is required to make plaster in the pool (see Plaster for the pool: how to choose), since it is in constant contact with the fluid and takes on a big shock from the hydraulics.
- Resins made of acrylic or epoxide act as a remedy for excess moisture. To increase the level of water resistance, special cement guns are used.
Special-Purpose Plasters
The technological process of using these types of plasters in construction is usual and standard in nature, but there are also special additives. If you need to use special plasters, then such an appointment must be indicated in the estimate, with the specification of its constituent elements.
X-ray protective plaster
X-ray protective plaster can be added to special types of mixtures:
- A special barite concentrate acts as an additional additive in this plaster (see. Barite plaster: application technology), it is much less expensive than its counterpart - a lead shield, which acts as a barrier to x-rays.
- Most often, the size and thickness of the plaster layer fluctuates around a half centimeter, and if necessary, additional protection is used so-called slabs of barite concentrate.
- When applying such plaster, the temperature in the room should not fall below fifteen degrees Celsius. Another feature of the X-ray protective mixture is the need to plaster the surface all at once, without the formation of joints.
Acid resistant plaster
It is allocated to the category of special mixtures. Most often used in repair and construction work in the premises of the chemical industry or in buildings where acid walls are actively influenced by fumes.
- Potassium glass in a liquid consistency is the basis for this type of mixture.
- Due to the properties of the glass (it begins to crack the floor under the influence of air), the surface of acid-resistant plaster is still covered with cement on top, which is then gently and carefully ironed.
- Quartzite can act as optional additives for an acid-resistant mixture.
Decorative plaster
There are many types and types of such a mixture. In its composition they have plaster of the usual composition, and rather original mixtures (for example, using marble chips).

Cons of decorative plaster | Despite the large number of advantages, this type of finish has its drawbacks:

Plaster for the facade and for interior work
If you understand the types and types of plaster by type of use, then they can be conditionally divided into mixtures:
- For exterior decoration;
- For internal work (see Types of plasters for interior decoration: choose correctly).
The facade mixture has a high level of strength and serves for many years. Due to the constant contact of the mixture with an external aggressive environment, it must be perfectly protected from low temperatures, excessive moisture, oxygen exposure and ultraviolet rays. Also on sale there are various mixers for plastering gun for plaster mixes, these not expensive things will greatly facilitate the application of the material.
- If you decide to use this type of finish in construction, then the first thing you need to find out is the composition of the material on which the plaster will be applied. For example, if a building is built of brick with a large number of voids, then it is forbidden to use a mixture of cement to finish it, since a huge amount of damage awaits you in the future, and the plaster will fall off the wall.
- Special mixtures, which include gypsum, have long been used to repair such structures, they are just perfect for the above surfaces. Therefore, when working with this type of mixes, without fail, consult a specialist in the field of construction and find out which type is most suitable for your wall.
On the contrary, the mixture for performing internal work is not so intensely affected by environmental factors. Therefore, when buying it, they most often pay attention to its safety and composition. Thus, water-based mixtures will be the best option, they do not form toxins, meeting all environmental requirements.
- Also, when choosing, they stop their gaze on the decorative and design characteristics of plaster. In general, all this division into types is rather arbitrary, usually mixtures are sold in a combined manner, they can be used to decorate walls, both on the facade of the building and indoors.
High quality plaster, simple and superior properties
In this article, we examined the types of mixtures in the modern building materials market. Such types can also be sold in a simple form, an improved version and in high quality.
- Plaster of a simple type is usually used in non-residential premises and when it is necessary to apply only the first layer, and then completely different building materials will be used during the decoration (as an example, tiles).
- Improved mixtures are treated with large quibbles. According to building codes, such a mixture should not go more than two millimeters from the surface. The level of evenness is determined and measured using special tools - rules or probes. Such studies are carried out in a volume of at least 3 for every ten square meters of the wall layer. The improved type is usually used to decorate the facade of the building, but only when the installation of stucco moldings and decorations from it is excluded in the future.
- Inside buildings and structures most often used high quality plaster. They decorate the wall, as a rule, in several layers superimposed on each other. First, make the first layer (in another “spray”), then several times pass with a primer, then the final layers are covered again with plaster.
Note: Most often in practice, the size and thickness of this type of mixture varies in the region of a quarter of a centimeter.
- The decoration of the premises is carried out using construction beacons, they help determine the direction and make the work most efficiently and accurately.
- Installation of such beacons requires a lot of time, it makes you do the work very carefully and carefully. The price of such finishes is quite high, hence it is used only in rooms and buildings where it is necessary to carry out expensive repairs of the highest quality.
Dry plaster
All types of mixtures, which we have told you in detail and in detail, relate to the wet type of plaster, which has the most common application, i.e. it is universal in nature.
- The main advantages of wet plaster is the fact that seams do not form during operation, using it you can repair absolutely any surface and layer with a different level of complexity. However, its main disadvantage smoothly follows from the pluses, it is very expensive in terms of financial resources and requires highly qualified personnel in the construction field for decoration.
- Also, the final work on applying a layer of plaster can be performed only after the first layers are completely dry and turn into a solid state. Therefore, the time to complete certain repair and construction works is increased several times.
So-called dry plaster does not have all the unpleasant cons:
- It consists of sheets containing gypsum board. They are installed with screws on the lattice structure of wood or aluminum.
If the surface is fairly smooth, then it is very easy to install dry-type plaster sheets, they are fixed with glue. - After you got rid of the joints, you can safely proceed to finishing the surface layer.
- If you have dry stucco available, where the surface is already prepared for finishing, then at the end of construction, the joints can be removed using special decorative nails.
- Despite the huge number of obvious pluses and advantages, dry plaster can be used only strictly in a certain room, inside it, and also where there is no moisture and temperature jumps.
Attention: There is also a stucco-adhesive mixture universal in this form. But this does not mean that it is used for decoration of facades. But it may well be used to finish the bathroom.
We study additives for plaster
The amount and percentage of the presence of additives of various types and purposes in mixtures is, as a rule, not more than one and a half percent of the total mass of the plaster. However, even in such a minimal consistency, they seriously affect all the characteristics and properties of the plaster, change its chemical composition.
These indicators include:
- The level of work increases significantly when surface finishing.
- The quality of all repair and construction work is improving before our eyes.
- The terms of "life" and the existence of plaster increase markedly.
- We spend less money on the purchase of building materials themselves, and on hiring highly qualified specialists in this field.
- Less moisture is passed through the plaster.
- The layer is becoming more durable.
- Interaction with other surfaces increases significantly.
- The fungus is no longer disturbed in the process of using the building or structure.
Attention: We have given only a very small and mean list of properties and characteristics of adding these fillers. However, it must be remembered that when purchasing various types of mixtures and plasters, these additives may not be indicated on the label of the building material.
This article only helps to understand the concept of plaster and their potential impact on the surface of the layer. But the stucco mixture must also be correctly applied and for each of them there is a detailed article on our website. This plaster mix tink or any other, the correct application will guarantee the quality of the coating.
