Why a wooden house is plastered
There are a huge number of reasons why you decide to plaster a wooden house. For example, not everyone can afford the construction of timber, which is saturated with a huge amount of chemicals. And plaster performs the same functions as impregnation. Of course, in this situation, the appearance will suffer, but here the period of operation will increase significantly.
The plastering of wooden walls protects them from:
- RottingTrue, it should be said that before applying the material, the tree must be covered with antiseptics and allowed to dry;
- Mold appearance. Here you will need to pay attention to the humidity of the tree. If it is higher than 12%, then the material will deteriorate under the plaster;
- Damage by rodents, termites.
Attention: The plastering of the walls of the house, which is built of timber, will be completed only a year after its construction, because the shrinkage process should end.
We choose the composition for work
Plastering on wood with your own hands is applied not only on the basis of the material of the plane, but also take into account the plastering material. After all, different mixtures can be used here and the characteristics of the coating will depend on this. Before proceeding with the work, you need to figure out which formulations can be used.
Many people are interested in the question of whether it is possible to carry out woodwork with a simple mortar of sand and cement, or with a lime version. Given the good adhesion of the tree, almost all types of mixtures and even those described above can be applied to it.
Caution: For any plaster uniformity of the mixture is important. There should be no lumps and the material should be ductile. Knead the mortar with a construction mixer or a drill with a nozzle, then you will get a quality composition.
Calcareous and cement plaster | The plastering of the facade of a wooden house is mainly done by this composition. It is the least susceptible to temperature extremes and high humidity. Do not forget that the cement mixture is made from one part of cement and three sand.

Lime-gypsum composition | Partitions wooden plastered are finished mainly with this composition.

Fill the shingles
The wooden surface under the plaster should hold the coating, because the cement will not just stay that way. To do this, either a building mesh or shingles are used. Stucco shit - plywood strips or strips up to two centimeters wide and three to five millimeters thick.
They are stuffed in several rows: the first is a shingle, the next is a weekend. To fix them we take special plaster nails.
So:
- The stylish shingles are nailed upwards parallel to each other. In this case, it is necessary to observe a three-centimeter step and an angle of forty-five degrees with respect to the horizontal;
- The output shingle is packed perpendicular to the floor. Ultimately, a diagonal crate will be obtained on the surface, which will not fit too tightly against the wall. During the work, we fill this space with a solution (an important condition for ensuring the reliability of fixing the plaster on the tree);
- The consumption of plaster per square meter will depend on how smooth the surface to be treated. The layer thickness should not be less than twenty centimeters. Too thin will cause the plank to shine through and the plaster to crack;
- To improve the properties, experts advise to wall the walls with felt, matting, or glassine. They are pre-treated with antiseptic agents and dried;
- Before proceeding with the facing, the covered walls should not be soaked too much, they should be sprayed a little;
- If plastering is done for painting or wallpapering, joints of different materials are encased in a reinforcing mesh of metal. We have it on both sides of the joint.
Exterior plastering
Tools that will be required:
- Components for creating a solution;
- Rule and level;
- Reiki, stucco mesh;
- The capacity in which the composition and the shovel will be mixed.
Prepare the surface
Perhaps this is the most important stage and you can not skip it.
Most often, preparation consists of the following processes:
- If the house is built of logs, then after the shrinkage is completed, most likely, cracks will appear in it, which should be filled with mineral wool. If they are too big, then hammer the slats;
- After that, the surface must attach the plaster mesh. It is worth noting that during home decoration from wood very often use shingles. To do this, put on the wall slats with a width of twenty millimeters and a thickness of five.
Attention: On top of them we mount the next layer, but at the same time we adhere to a right angle with respect to the first layer. As a result, you get a mesh pattern. The use of drani will provide better plastering.
- The next step in preparation will be lighthouse installationWithout which the walls will never turn out smooth. The thickness of the plaster is at least fifteen millimeters. Installation begins with corners, then we move along the wall. In this case, the step between the bars should not be less than the length of the rule itself. After installing the beacons, the quality of work can be checked by the level and, if necessary, we carry out the adjustment.
Plastering
The front plane is most vulnerable to external influences. Cement compounds are better suited here.
- First, be sure to spray the walls. To do this, we take the same plaster for outdoor work, but in a more liquid state. To improve the effect, simply add a small amount of PVA glue to the solution. If this is your first time undertaking a task of this kind, then spray your hands. When you fill your hand, you can safely take a trowel or trowel.
- The thickness of the spread layer is not less than 10 mm. The composition should cover all cracks, bumps, because this coating replaces the primer. It’s best to move from above.
- After that, on a slightly dried, but not completely dried image, apply the main layer. Spread the composition with a bucket, after which we pick up the rule and align the walls with it.
Caution: Plaster that has been applied recently must dry naturally, so protect it from UV light or freezing. For this reason, all procedures are best performed in the fall or spring.
As a result, your walls should be smooth and even.
Decorative plastering
So, you have completed the main work, but it is impossible that the structure remains so, because the facade looks extremely unpresentable, and the plaster does not have moisture protection. It is for this reason that the walls are covered decorative plaster.
It should be noted that facade plaster is more flexible, which protects the surface from damage, improving noise and heat insulation characteristics. On the market there are a huge number of different mixtures that differ in external signs and characteristics.
The following types of plasters are considered the most common:
- Silicate;
- Acrylic
- Silicone and mineral (seeMineral facade plaster: material features).
In addition to differences in properties, such coatings are different. Therefore, the choice depends entirely on the financial capabilities and preferences of the person.
Consider the process of applying plaster:
- At the very beginning, the surface should be covered with a primer. This improves the adhesion of the rough and finish plaster;
- Then, guided by the instructions on the packaging, stir the mixture;
- Next, apply plaster to the walls with a wide spatula;
- After a few hours from the moment of application, we undertake to wipe the surface.
Attention: We grout with an aluminum or wooden grater with glued polystyrene. The entire plane of the tool should be pressed against the wall.
- On top of the rough plaster indoors, you can take absolutely any material for decoration - tile, wallpaper and so on.
You already know how to plaster a wooden partition and can do this job. The most important thing is not to rush and do everything thoughtfully. Also, use high-quality materials for work and this will be the key to the durability of the finish.
Plastering on wood with your own hands is applied not only on the basis of the material of the plane, but also take into account the plastering material. After all, different mixtures can be used here and the characteristics of the coating will depend on this. Before proceeding with the work, you need to figure out which formulations can be used.
