A relief coating of walls is the application of a finishing material when finishing planes, the basis of which is a binder, with the addition of auxiliary additives to it:

  • Resins of various kinds.
  • Crumbs of stone.
  • Plain lime.
  • Mineral constituents.

It is the quantity and composition of these materials that determine the texture and the final appearance of the embossed finish.

For the intended purpose, the composition may be:

The mixtures have minimal shrinkage, which allows you to maintain image clarity after application.

Decorative plaster of this type makes it possible to create patterns that resemble in structure:

  • Wood.
  • Peel from an orange.
  • Granite.
  • All kinds of plants.
  • The surface of the bark beetle, which imitates the walls, corroded by insects.

On the wall, you can create an abstract pattern or complete the finished picture indoors or on the external facade. The main thing is that everything can be done with your own hands, without involving craftsmen, after studying some of the nuances that determine the composition of solutions for work and the correct execution of all operations.

The difference between the mixtures used in the work

According to the chemical composition, the basis of decorative plaster are different substances that give the material special properties.

She may be:

  1. quite elastic;
  2. perfectly passes pairs;
  3. does not require complicated care. The coating is easy to wash, and when finishing the building outside, it is enough to go through a little rain so that the walls take on their original appearance. But, the lack of composition is the high price.
  • Mineral. This is a facing material, the basis of which is lime or cement. When marble chips are added to the solution, the relief of the coating becomes more noticeable. It is produced in dry form, which requires before application to bring the composition to the optimal consistency, diluting it with water. The mixture is universal, this allows you to use it in the interior and for the facade of the building.
  • Polymer or acrylic. Such bas-relief stucco is ready to be applied to the walls. As a part, filler can act as dust from ash, marble or glass chips. The solution does not pass vapors poorly, it is used to treat walls indoors. But it withstands the effects of the atmosphere, which allows the use of the coating for outdoor use.
  • Silicate. This is a mineral composition with an astringent component, having the form corresponding to potassium liquid glass. The material is optimally adapted for processing and decoration of any surface.

Relief paintings can be very different in texture and pattern of the final pattern. Some of them are presented in the photo.

Coverage may be:

  • Marbled or "Venetian" (cm.Venetian textured plaster: how to use) In this case, the solution is made on the basis of flour, consisting of natural marble, to which water emulsion and slaked lime are added. The main condition for application is the presence of a perfectly smooth wall. The composition is different:
  1. water resistant
  2. lack of a harmful and unpleasant smell;
  3. increased fire resistance.
  • Flockconsisting of glue to which painted blotches are added. After application, the pattern resembles mosaic chips. The order of application of the solution is quite original:
  1. multi-colored crumbs are pounced on top.
  2. the wall is covered with adhesive;
  3. Textured. This is the most popular coating that does not require special skills. The composition is applied with special tools that may be.
  4. embossed roller with the selected pattern used for plaster;
  5. polyethylene film;
  6. a small washcloth;
  7. putty knife;
  8. if desired, the pattern can be formed with your hands.
  • Structural. To form a coating, an inhomogeneous mass with interspersed granules is used. It is used for facing the building inside and out. An aqueous solvent base makes the composition environmentally friendly.
  • Lessing. With it, you can achieve the effect of the "old" walls. The mixture is different:
  1. lack of toxins;
  2. resistance to external influences.

Advantages and disadvantages of the material

The most significant advantages of decorative plaster are:

  • Creates a heater effect. To achieve it, it is necessary to pre-treat the wall with a primer before plastering.
  • It can mask bumps and roughness on the surface of the walls.
  • It is easy to use, and almost any coating can be processed with the material.

Preparing for applying plaster for a picture

Tip: Before applying decorative plaster, it is necessary to prepare the surface.

For this:

  • Old plaster or paint is removed to ensure better adhesion to the wall.
  • If necessary, the walls are pre-aligned by applying one layer of mortar.
  • Wall surfaces are primed (.

Tip: At the preparatory stage, it is very important to determine the required amount of material and create appropriate stocks. This will allow you not to be distracted during the finishing work on the additional purchase of plaster and not interrupt the process.

Ways to apply pictures

There are several ways to apply pictures to walls after preparing surfaces.

When coating small:

  • The mixture is diluted to a pasty consistency.
  • The resulting solution with a spatula is transferred to the trowel and gently leveled along the wall.
  • During the hardening of the mortar, the image can be painted on the raw plaster in the necessary colors and shades, which will give it a 3D effect.

Tip: The solution should not be applied in two layers on smooth surfaces, otherwise the material for the plaster will become porous. And air cavities in a relief image can cause destruction of the material.

When using a stencil:

Stencil
Stencil
  • A stencil is cut out from sufficiently thick paper or similar material to fit the desired pattern. The magnitude of the convexity of the image depends on the thickness of the used stencil.
  • The product is attached to the wall with adhesive tape or glue.
  • Plaster mortar on the wall surface is applied on top of the stencil.
  • After the start of setting the plaster, but not finally dried, the stencil is removed from the wall.
  • The stencil is thoroughly cleaned of the wet solution so that it can be used in the future.
  • After the composition dries, the painting is painted on the wall from plaster.

All the nuances of the work shows in detail the video in this article.

    I tried to make a picture using ordinary cardboard for drawings, it turned out very nice. Given that this was my first experience, it did not turn out very badly. Volumetric pictures are more difficult, but the result is impressive.
