Applying textured plaster: video instruction

Kondratieva Tatyana

Textured plaster is an effective way to create an original relief of an internal or front wall. Using this material, they imitate natural stone, leather, wood, velvet, form rough granular surfaces, and implement exclusive design solutions. Finishing with this method allows you to increase the resistance of the surface to mechanical stress, hide defects, protect the wall from temperature extremes and ultraviolet radiation.

Finishing work can be done by a novice master. The main difficulty that textured plaster will create for a beginner is application technology. The video at the bottom of the page will help you master the various methods of processing walls with your own hands. For interior design in this way, brick, concrete, block walls are suitable. Textured mixtures are sold in a wide assortment of species, compositions and manufacturers.

Materials and Tools

The application of textured plaster (the video at the bottom of the page shows the process in detail) is carried out by special devices. To create an original relief surface are used:

  • trowels;
  • curly rollers;
  • rubber spatulas and spatulas;
  • wide metal spatulas;
  • wooden graters;
  • gear spatulas;
  • tassels;
  • stamps.

A complex author's pattern is superimposed using the sculptor's tools - stacks, spatulas and cutters (an example is shown in the photo).

Creation of an author's pattern

The material for textured wall decoration is a viscous heterogeneous mixture. The composition of the plaster is the basic component, granular mineral additives, a binder. Additive options: stone chips, cotton or wood fibers, mica, quartz sand. Types of decorative plaster mixes:

  • acrylic;
  • silicate;
  • mineral;
  • silicone.

The composition of the mixture determines the external effect, properties, level of elasticity and graininess.

Do-it-yourself plastering: step-by-step instructions

Perform finishing operations in the following sequence:

  1. prepare the walls for work;
  2. form the base surface;
  3. create a decorative texture;
  4. do the finishing.

The first step is to clean the wall of the old coating and level the plane. Putty fill cavities, cracks, dimples, potholes, and crevices. On reinforced concrete, brick, aerated concrete and foam concrete walls, install a reinforcing network to protect against cracking and shedding. This will help and enhance the adhesion of the decorative plaster to the surface. Check the level and plummet for the degree of curvature of the plane. If they are significant, align the walls with lighthouses by applying several layers of gypsum, sand-cement or lime mixture. Wait for the intermediate drying of each layer for at least a day.

Recommendation. Aligning the wall with serious errors will simplify and speed up the installation of drywall sheets.

To enhance adhesion, a primer is applied to the wall with a deep penetration in two layers with intermediate drying. Use an acrylic primer for this, and in a room with high humidity, additionally cover the wall with an antifungal drug.

At the second stage, the decorative mixture is superimposed on the walls. Buy the finished composition or make it yourself from a dry powder.The video in this article describes in detail the technique of preparing the solution and tinting in the desired color. For every square meter of the wall, it will take at least one or two kilograms of plaster with a single-layer coating. But the relief texture requires the application of several layers.

Important! If you are decorating a wall in a room with a high level of humidity, buy special moisture-resistant paints for plaster.

Carefully watch the tutorial on how to apply textured plaster. A video with a visual demonstration of finishing operations will give a general idea of working with the material. A practical skill will appear only in the process of work.

Advice! Practice on an inconspicuous part of the wall, make a trial application of a small amount of plaster mixture, wait for it to dry. You will see the end result in advance and prevent possible errors.

Put a little mortar on the trowel with a spatula, place the blade against the wall at an angle of 30 degrees and smoothly draw along the wall. Lay a layer of plaster from a thickness of 3.5 mm. In corners, use a spatula with a narrow and long blade.

The third stage is the formation of relief patterns or imitations of stone, wood, fabric textures. The technology for applying textured plaster is selected depending on the type of finish (pack, Venetian plaster, world map, graphite, etc.).

At the final stage, finishing is carried out with a fine-grained abrasive and coating the plaster with varnish.

Methods for applying textured plaster

Watch the video “Applying textured plaster”, consult with the designer, choose the appropriate option for wall decoration. For the first experiment, choose a simple solution or experiment with small sections of walls in the utility room, pantry, remote room. If you want to apply your own author’s solution, carefully select the material and check with the seller about its purpose.

Textured plaster: world map technology

To obtain the effect of a geographical map on the wall, special textured plaster is used. How to apply relief is shown in detail in the video.

At the factory banks, the purpose of the plaster for the effect of "islands", "travertine", "world map" is indicated. The material is applied to the prepared surface after priming with a foam roller. The primer composition includes silica sand to enhance adhesion.

  1. The first layer of plaster is applied with a layer of 2 mm without smoothing. They pass along a still damp surface with a short-nap roller to create a fur coat and enhance the decorative effect. After drying, the surface is treated with sandpaper.
  2. The second layer is superimposed by local fragments and gently rubbed with a trowel. The finished texture is glossed with an alloy trowel until a smooth, even surface is obtained.
  3. For finishing coloring, varnish, wax or metallized dye is used. The drawing will turn out in two color shades

Important! Only use a stainless steel trowel, otherwise the islands will become rusty.

Stucco Versailles

Textured plaster: Versailles technology

A mixture of starting and finishing putties in equal proportions is used as the material.

  1. A layer of 3 mm thick putty mixture is applied to the finished surface with random strokes. Work starts from the joints of the walls with the floor and from the corners.
  2. The waveform of the entire plane of the large trowel is applied relief "curlicues".
  3. The wall is left to dry completely for two days.
  4. In 2 stages, the wall is polished: the primary treatment removes sharp protrusions, the secondary cleaning with a medium grain sandpaper polishes the surface.
  5. The plaster is coated with a paint composition using a roller with a medium pile.
  6. Gilding is applied to the protruding parts.Material - a mixture of silver powder or gilding powder with a primer or acrylic varnish. For application, a foam roller is used.
  7. After drying the paint and gilding, the wall is varnished with glitter for shine and protection from moisture.

Versailles plaster can be subsequently wiped with a damp cloth.
