Today it is not difficult to transform the external walls of a balcony or loggia. For this, there is a huge amount of finishing material.
All its types differ not only in their cost, but also in technical properties. Anyone can choose the best option for themselves.
The most popular is considered for loggia, lining trim. This material can be of two types: plastic lining and wooden.
Both that and that has high indicators of operation. But everything will depend on the place of its application.

Wood paneling

Wood has long been considered the most popular and very popular material. It is used not only in construction.
At the moment, wood lining has become widely used. It has a fairly large number of color schemes.
So:

  • Lining of this type is used for interior and exterior decoration. With its help it will be possible to perform not only the surface of the walls, but also the ceiling.
This material has a pretty good technical performance.

There are several types of classification, according to which a lining made of wood is distinguished by its qualities:

  • By type of wood.
  • By type of wood.
  • By type of profile.

Lining can be made of hardwood or coniferous wood.
Among hardwoods used:

  • Ash.
  • Linden.
  • Alder and others.

Of conifers, preference is given to:

  • Pine tree.
  • Cedar.
  • Ate.
  • Larch.

Lining, which was made of coniferous trees, is used in domestic or residential premises.

Tip. The lining of coniferous trees should not be used in saunas or baths, where there is a fairly high humidity. For this reason, the lining can emit a large number of resins, which can affect the deformation of the surface of the finishing material.

The types of wood from which the lining is made are divided into several classes: A, B, C and Extra:

  • The “Extra” class includes such a lining that does not contain a core and has no defects.
  • The “A” class is also characterized by the absence of a core, but knots may occur every 1-1.5 m. In all other classes, knots are quite common, but this does not prevent us from using this type for finishing work.

Classification by type of profile involves the division of lining into ordinary and euro lining. These types differ among themselves in the way of processing wood and in the method of joining boards together.
On the back of the euro lining there are special ventilation ducts that contribute to the drainage of condensate. They also serve as ducts that help relieve stress from such a wooden product.
Eurolining has several profiles:

  • Standard.
  • Softline
  • Landhau.
  • Block house.
  • American.

A block house is an imitation of a rounded beam and such decoration is very widely used for the exterior walls of any structure. The house with her looks like a wooden one.
Lining thickness can be 12-15 mm. This thickness contributes to the long operation of this finishing material, since its surface will be quite durable and will not deform under the influence of various physical influences.

The advantages of wooden lining

Both simple and eurolining are easy to install. Finishing the loggia with a self-made euro lining is not a big deal.
So:

  • This finishing material is fairly easy to fit and its price is very low, which makes it possible to use it in any finishing work.
  • The next advantage of wood lining is durability. There are no time limits for the operation of this finishing material.
If the lining is covered with a layer of varnish, then it is largely protected from contamination and is quite easy to care for. She does not lose her color for a long period of time.
  • Installation of the lining is carried out using grooves that are placed on the end of each such panel. This makes the finishing process very simple.
The gaps between the panels will not be visible, since the fasteners tightly fix each detail.

For reference. The material has a very wide range of colors, which makes it possible to create the original design of a balcony or loggia.

Plastic lining

Plastic has been used for a long time to carry out finishing work both indoors and on exterior walls. In almost every third kitchen, the ceiling is made of plastic lining.
In addition, it is very practical to sheathe a balcony or loggia with this finishing material. Plastic lining is made using modern technology, which makes such a finishing material more durable and durable.
Also, the plastic lining has a wide range of colors and can be used in any design.

The advantages of plastic lining

Plastic has its advantages:

  • It is very practical and its installation is quite simple. Cleaning such a material does not take much time, since it will be enough to rinse with water and not use any special detergents.
This fact has a very positive effect on the choice of finishing material, especially for exterior walls.
  • As for frost resistance, the plastic lining does not deform under the influence of low temperatures. Also, it is not exposed to temperature changes and is not deformed as a result of the influence of climatic and weather phenomena.
  • Plastic panels are moisture resistant and do not allow air to pass through. This finishing material is durable, which allows you to change less often exterior decoration of the balcony or loggias.
  • Repair using such a finishing material will be very quick. Plastic wall paneling can be installed on any surface of the wall.
It is quite easily cut with a regular stationery knife or hacksaw, which will make it possible to easily adjust the required strip size even in a vertical, even in a horizontal position.

Installation of plastic lining

Decorating the loggia with a lining with your own hands will be very simple. All this is due to the fact that this type of finishing material is very easily fastened together using special locks that are located on the sides of the panels.

In order to carry out the installation of plastic lining it will be necessary:

  • Metal or wood.
  • Plastic lining.
  • Starting lane.
  • Plastic outside corners.
  • Screwdriver.
  • Drill.
  • Self-tapping screws.
  • Construction stapler.
  • Sealant.

In order to prevent mistakes in the work, there is a certain instruction, observing that the exterior finish will be very quick and easy. The first thing to do is crate.
Mounting plastic panels is very similar to mounting siding. The crate for such actions can be made of wood or metal.

Tip. For plastic panels it will be better to use wood for the lathing. It is softer and more practical.
Also fastening on it starting and auxiliary strips for fastening plastic.

So:

  • Metal can also be used for the manufacture of crates, but it will be necessary to ensure a fairly good tightness of the entire structure, since condensation will appear on the metal surface over time. Although plastic is not afraid of moisture, insulation can absorb it.
As a result, the air humidity may increase on the balcony and there will be an unpleasant smell.
  • A starting strip is attached to the crate, which will set the direction for all subsequent strips using self-tapping screws for the metal crate. As fasteners for a wooden crate, a stapler is used.
The following strips are inserted into the grooves of the previous ones, and so on to the very top.
  • Since the lining can be mounted in a horizontal or vertical position, it will be more correct in the first embodiment to start installation from below, and in the second - from the corner of the balcony or loggia.
  • Once all the stripes are dialed, it is necessary to fix the outer corners. They are also inserted into the grooves.

Tip. Only it needs to be done very carefully for the reason that plastic is a rather fragile material and its surface can crack under physical impact.

  • In addition to decorating the exterior walls of the balcony or loggia, there is also finishing the window slopes from the lining. The process is similar to installing a plastic lining.
A lath is also made on which strips are mounted. Only the process of such finishing will be much faster, since the area for these works will be quite small.

With the help of plastic lining, it is possible to create an interesting and neat design of the walls of a balcony or loggia. The photo shows an example of such a finish.

Installation of wood lining

The installation process itself is very simple. This applies to both wooden and plastic lining.

In order to fix the wooden lining you will need:

  • Wooden lining.
  • Outside corners.
  • Screwdriver.
  • Drill.
  • Self-tapping screws.
  • Metal.

Metal will be needed to make the lathing. Why is metal used, and not wood for crate?
Everything is very simple. If the plastic lining is very light, then its wooden crate can support its weight.
A lining made of wood has a rather large weight and it is best to use a metal crate for the strength of the entire structure. A wooden lining is different in that during its installation it will be possible to create quite interesting patterns, since it is possible to use its different size and color.
There is a detailed video that shows the entire installation process of the lining. All actions for fixing the lining to the external walls are similar for both wooden and plastic.
