Plaster textured bark beetle: characteristic features of the material
In public places, you probably noticed an unusual wall covering, which was rough to the touch, as if the mixture was distributed unevenly on the wall, and it lay in such an intricate pattern. This is the plaster textured bark beetle. The name is due to the fact that the result of the activity of these insects is a similar interesting pattern on the cortex.

What is a textured decorative plaster bark beetle
There are two types of stucco on the building materials market:
- Acrylic plaster goes on sale as a single mixture.
- Gypsum plaster - in the form of several composite components.
Note. The main difference between the bark beetle plaster is that it has small granules in its composition, which are responsible for such a bizarre pattern. The granules themselves are made of natural stone.
So:
- The decorative textured plaster of bark beetle is classified into three groups, depending on the size of the granules in the composition.
- And the size can vary from one to three and a half millimeters. The choice of crumb size in the mixture depends not only on style preferences, but also on the application.
The main advantages that this type of coating has:
- Lightness of material and variability of the size of the granules of the filler - these are the factors due to which plaster has a wide scope. Based on this, the coating will not burden the walls of the building.
- There are no aggressive chemical components in the plaster.making it environmentally friendly.
- The material withstands both low and high temperature differences.
- High refractoriness and does not emit toxic chemicals under the influence of sunlight.
- Stucco does not react in contact with weak chemical solutions.. It is not subject to the destructive action of fungi.
- Long lasting, is not amenable to dissimilar weak mechanical influences, whether it be: wet cleaning with a sponge or vacuuming.
- The mixture has a white color, which allows you to add special dyes to it if desired. Also, the plaster lends itself to coloring and varnishing even after application to the surface.
- This coating is easy to find in any building materials store, and the price does not bite at all.
Where can bark beetle textured plaster be used
It can cover both the facade of the building and act as an excellent option for the interior decoration of the room:
- What the result will be will depend not only on the size of the granules in the mixture, but also on the manner of applying the plaster.
- It can be applied with smooth translational strokes, or you can depict an interesting ornament or pattern.
It all depends on the scope of your imagination. In addition, after varnishing or painting (see Painting bark beetle plaster - all ways) The result will be even more interesting.
How not to miscalculate with a choice
This is not only about the price, but also about the functional features:
- As already mentioned above, the size of the granules in the stucco mixture is different, and, consequently, the result obtained too.
- The depth and width of the resulting grooves on the wall directly depends on the scale of the grains in the plaster.
Note. It is worth noting that the consumption of plaster with large inclusions is greater than that of a mixture with smaller particles.
The next point to decide is the type of plaster itself:
- Acrylic is sold as a single mixture, which allows to avoid errors in proportions when mixing, but it is more expensive.
- Gypsum plaster sold in the form of several components for mixing, but do not think that it looks worse than acrylic.
With proper work with gypsum mixture, the result you get is the same as if you worked with acrylic.
Stucco textured bark beetle: instructions for use
This is done in order to cover as high quality as possible:
- The surface must be thoroughly cleaned of contaminants, and after that, accordingly, fill all irregularities with putty (see Aligning the walls with putty in accordance with all the rules).
- Do not forget that the final result will depend on the evenness of the surface, so do not spare your strength.
- After the putty process has been completed, you can begin to apply the primer.
- Primer paint provides good adhesion of the plaster to the surface. After drying the soil mixture (it lasts about 5 hours), it is worth starting work with plaster.
Tip. It is advisable to use the products of one manufacturer at all stages of work.
How to breed a mixture
If there is none, then be guided by the following principles:
- Water should be cool, about 16-20 degrees.
- Mix the mixture very carefully, using a drill with a special nozzle.
- After the desired consistency has been obtained, it is necessary to let the mixture brew for several minutes, and then mix it again.
Note. Do not forget that you need to store the plaster in the finished state exactly as much as indicated on the package. By adding water to the diluted plaster, you will not increase the storage time.
How and what to apply plaster on the surface
The applied layer should be from three to five millimeters:
- When distributing the plaster on the wall, you are not limited in the direction of movement.
- The direction depends solely on what result you want to get.
- A lot of raw materials remain on the trowel during operation, so you need to scrape it off during application.
- It is necessary to plaster at one go without interruption. Otherwise, joints on the wall may be visible.
- As you can see, the whole process can be done with your own hands.
