It is hard to believe that not so long ago dry building mixes were sold in an assortment of several items and were often in short supply. Today, the problem is the opposite: the number of multi-colored bags that are used to shelve the shelves of building supermarkets flashes their eyes and the choice becomes an unrealistic task.

But if you first understand this variety, it is simplified. Therefore, we suggest you study the most popular offers. You will find out where the Prospectors gypsum plaster is used, its technical characteristics and application features.

Material Basics

Building mixtures of this brand are one of the most famous among domestic manufacturers. Among them there are plasters on a cement and polymer binder, putties, tile adhesives and primers (see Types of construction primers and their scope).

What is the gypsum plaster mixture Prospectors?

Composition and purpose

The binder of Gypsum gypsum plaster is white or gray gypsum. In addition to it, fillers are included in the composition to facilitate the solution and to reduce its consumption, imported modifying additives, giving it elasticity and other properties that simplify the application and processing of the plastered surface.

Gypsum plaster The miner intends for internal work in rooms with normal humidity.

Note. Since gypsum does not tolerate moisture, mixtures based on it that do not contain special moisture-resistant additives are not recommended for decoration of bathrooms and building facades. Keep them in a dry place.

Types of substrates on which plaster can be applied:

  • Brickwork;
  • Concrete, reinforced concrete;
  • Cement plaster;
  • Aerated concrete, cellular concrete, foam concrete.

Since the gypsum plaster of Prospectors can be applied with a rather thin layer (from 5 mm), creating a smooth and even surface that does not require puttying, it can be used to finish both walls and ceilings. The finished coating increases the heat and sound insulation of the base, due to the ability to absorb and give off moisture, it creates a comfortable microclimate in the room and is highly resistant to cracking.

It is applied manually or mechanically. At one time, the instructions for use allow the creation of a layer up to 50 mm thick, and in local areas (bumps, cracks, etc.) up to 80 mm.

The surfaces leveled with this material can be subjected to the following types of decorative finishes without additional processing:

Specifications

The main technical specifications of gypsum plaster Prospectors are given in the table.

ColourWhite gray
The thickness of the layer applied in one step5-50 mm
Maximum thickness in local areas80-100 mm
Proportions of water and dry mix0.5-0.7 L per 1 kg
The viability of the finished solution20-50 min
Base grip strengthNot less than 0.5MPa
Compressive strengthNot less than 2.5 MPa
Consumption per 1 m2 of dry mix with a layer of 10 mm8-10 kg
PackagingKraft bags of 15 kg, 30 kg
Shelf life in unopened packaging6 months

For reference. From the above data it can be seen that to prepare a solution from one bag of a stucco cement-based mortar mix, Prospectors need about 15-20 liters of water, this amount is enough to smooth 3-3.5 square meters of the surface, provided that a layer of 10 mm thickness is applied. The price of one such bag is about 300 rubles, the finish is quite economical and high quality.

Application technology

Recommendations for preparing the solution and working with it are on each package. But it will not be superfluous to describe in detail the whole process for those who first take on this material and want to do it themselves.

Surface preparation

Work can only be done at a positive ambient temperature (5-35 degrees).

Before they begin, the following activities are carried out:

  • The base is cleaned of old peeling plaster, growths, dirt, oil stains, dust. If it has protruding metal parts (nails, self-tapping screws, protruding fittings, etc.), they are removed, and those that cannot be removed are coated with anti-corrosion agents so that over time the rust does not appear through the layer of plaster;
  • To increase the adhesion of the gypsum mortar to the base, the surface is covered with a primer, which must be allowed to dry, after which you can immediately proceed to plastering until the dust has settled on it again.

Tip. Non-absorbing surfaces, such as ceramic tiles or monolithic concrete, are treated with Concrete-contact, and highly absorbent (cement plaster, brick, gas and foam concrete) primers Universal Prospectors.

Preparation of working solution

You will need a large capacity, clean water and an electric drill with a mixing nozzle or a professional construction mixer. The solution is prepared in the amount that you can completely spend in 30-40 minutes. After this time, it will lose its viability and become unsuitable for application.

Pure water is poured into the container at a rate of 0.5-0.7 liters per kilogram of dry mix gypsum plaster Prospectors 30 kg. Then, using a mixer, the ingredients are mixed until a homogeneous mass without lumps. The solution is aged for several minutes and mixed again.

Note! When cooking, you can not use any additional ingredients, only water and gypsum powder. After the beginning of solidification, it is useless to try to restore the plasticity of the solution by adding water to it.

Plastering

The process of applying plaster is standard (see How is wall plastering with cement mortar) The solution is applied with a spatula on vertical surfaces from bottom to top, and on horizontal ones in the direction of “towards oneself”, after which they are leveled with the rule.

There are special recommendations specifically related to the use of the plaster mixture Prospectors:

  • It is allowed to apply only one layer, the thickness of which in large areas should not exceed 50 mm, and in local 80 mm;
  • When decorating ceilings, the surface must be reinforced with a galvanized plaster mesh if the layer thickness exceeds 20 mm;
  • 40-60 minutes after the start of setting, the excess and influx of the solution are cut off from the surface as a rule, the irregularities are filled with fresh solution and smoothed with a spatula;
  • If the walls are prepared for painting or wallpaper, they are wiped to smoothness. This is done this way: when the surface ceases to be pressed when pressed with a finger, it is abundantly moistened with water, allowed to soak until a matte surface appears, wiped with a sponge grater and smoothed with a wide spatula.Repeated procedure will make it perfectly smooth.

Conclusion

Any material has its advantages and disadvantages. Gypsum quickly freezes, it is difficult to work with it. But thanks to the introduction of special additives, the gypsum mixtures of the Starateli brand have a sufficiently long viability and plasticity, which facilitates their application.

And the merits of this material are all said above and described in the video in this article. Compare it with other similar mixtures from other manufacturers before heading to the store.
