Paint for interior wall decoration: how to choose
In internal works, a huge amount of materials can be used today. The greatest demand is for wall decoration and painting.
This method of room decoration allows you to constantly change colors in the interior. Consider what paints are for interior wall decoration and how to apply them.

How to prepare the surface for painting
Wall decoration paint can only be performed on a well-prepared and even surface, since it is not able to hide defects, and when using bright colors on surfaces, it even increases them.
Surface cleaning
Any kind of paint should be applied only to a clean surface.
To cleanse it you will need:
- Rags and foam sponges.
- Water and ordinary detergent.
Stages:
- The surface is treated with a cleanser and then washed well with plain water. After this, you need to give time to dry well.
Tip. Such actions can only be performed on a plastered surface. If it was painted before then the process of work is a little complicated.
- If the surface is painted, then initially you need to remove paint layers from it. This can be done using a special solution.
Of course, he will not be able to completely remove the paint from the surface and in some places you need to use a spatula. For this reason, small holes can be obtained that are smeared with plaster and passed with sandpaper after it dries. - Then the surface is washed and dried well.
- If you need to paint drywall, then with its preparation there will be no problems. It will be enough to go through it with a vacuum cleaner to remove building dust and then primed with a tool.
- The same actions after drying are done on the plastered surface.
Tip.
Paint should only be applied in a clean room so that construction debris and dust do not get into the composition. For this, the room is also subject to cleaning and wet cleaning.
Surface alignment
The technology for painting walls for painting is very simple.
To smooth the surface, several material options are used:
- Drywall (seeDrywall finishing: work procedure).
- Plaster.
- Sheets of fine OSB.
- Sheets of plywood.
Drywall Application
Drywall is a universal material, without which no repair work is currently complete. There is drywall for walls and ceilings.
It is also moisture resistant and fire resistant.
Tip. In order to use paint in the decoration you need to apply moisture-proof drywall.
Painting walls using drywall begins with the manufacture on the surface of a special frame for mounting sheets of material.
For this you need:
- Metal profile.
- Dowels and metal screws.
- Scissors for metal.
- Building level.
- Ruler and chalk.
- Rotary hammer or conventional drill.
- Screwdriver.
Note. The metal profiles are very soft and can be easily cut to the desired size with ordinary metal scissors.
You can use other tools for such work:
- The grinder.
- Hacksaw for metal.
Works:
- Initially, the profile is mounted vertically on the surface, its height will be similar to the height of the room itself. The distance between them should be from 50 to 80 cm.
- They are fastened with dowels using a punch or drill.
- Similar guides are mounted on top of them, so that as a result a box is obtained. Then the profile is cut, the size will be similar to the distance between the guides.
Tip.
To fix horizontal profiles to the main guides, you need to cut their size a few centimeters more. Edges are bent for installation to vertical guides.
- On top of them, another profile of the same size is also mounted to form a box and a flat surface of the crate elements. All actions are carried out using metal screws.
- As soon as the crate on the surface is ready, you can proceed with the installation of drywall sheets. An office knife is used to trim the size of this material.
Tip. Since drywall consists of sheets of thick cardboard, between which there is gypsum dough, you need to work with it very carefully so as not to damage its structure.
- Sheets on the frame are attached joint to joint. We must try to keep the distance between them very small.
This will make it possible to create a perfectly flat surface. - Drywall is mounted using self-tapping screws and a screwdriver. All actions can be done without much effort by hand.
Joints of sheets are coated with putty solution. After it has completely dried, they are processed with sandpaper.
The use of plaster for leveling surfaces
Stucco wall decoration using plaster (seeTypes of plasters for interior decoration: choose correctly) differs in the duration of the process. If the installation of drywall can be completed in just one day, then with plastering the work will be for several days.
All this is due to the fact that the solution that is applied to the surface must dry well.
There are only three types of plaster that are used in the work:
- "Start".
- "The finish".
- Universal.
Material Features:
- With the starting plaster, everything is clear. It is used at the very beginning of work on leveling surfaces.
It has a coarse-grained structure and finish plaster must be used on top of it, having a fine structure to mask defects in the application of the starting plaster. - There is one type of finishing solution, which is not so often used because of its small popularity, it is called "pieces".
- Its structure consists of lime and sand. This type of plaster breathes and is the safest for human health.
- In order to apply the plaster solution to the wall, you need to prepare it. There is an instruction on the package.
A loose mixture of plaster is poured into the container and a certain amount of liquid is added to it. - Then the mass is mixed with a construction mixer until completely homogeneous.
For work on applying the start and finish plaster you will need:
- Building level.
- Large and small spatula.
- Sandpaper.
Tip. If the surface is wooden, then a special mesh should be fixed on it for plastering surfaces.
Works:
- The choice of tool should depend on what size it will be more convenient for the master to work with.
- Apply the “start” and “finish” plaster in several layers of small thickness. After drying, they all lend themselves to sandpaper processing.
Tip. For the starting layer, it is best to use large sandpaper, and for the finish - fine sandpaper.
- As for universal plaster, this solution is quite rare. It is sold ready-made.
It is applied only to those surfaces that have not too pronounced defects, since its main task is to prepare the surface for finishing.
After the preparation of the walls for painting is completed, you need to qualitatively make the choice of the coloring agent itself.
The choice of paint for work on painting internal surfaces
Paints for interior wall decoration are found in different quality and technical characteristics.
They may be:
No one will argue with the fact that the most often used in finishing work is a water emulsion.
Water-based paint and its characteristics
A water emulsion is an environmentally friendly paint, as the basis for its manufacture is water.
It is applied to the surface quite simply. It also dries quickly.
Characteristic:
- It has a wide range of shades and the photo shows a variety of colors for its implementation, which makes it possible to use it for decoration of any room.
- It fits well on any kind of surface.
- The most common way to use it is to drywall.
- She washes without foaming detergent, a simple damp cloth.
Tip. Over time, this type of paint can absorb a large amount of dust or various kinds of contamination.
A surface that is painted with a water-based emulsion may lose its original appearance. To restore it, you need to use a detergent that removes the outer layer of paint from the surface and only then paint the surface again.
The main advantage of aqueous emulsion ink will be its price, which is several times lower than other paints.
It is applied to the surface with:
- Roller made of natural material.
- Natural brushes.
Tip.
When choosing a tool for such work, preference should be given only to natural fibers, since foam rolls can leave marks on the surface. Painting them after drying will be quite difficult.
- Brushes are used to paint those places on the surface where it is difficult to get a roller - at the top of the wall, in the corners and so on. All the main work is performed by the roller, as it can evenly distribute the paint on the surface during the work.
- The roller is wetted in the paint and squeezed well so that there are no drips on the surface from excess paint. With smooth and accurate movements, it rolls along the surface.
It is not necessary to go through the same place several times. This may cause uneven surface coloring. - The applied emulsion on the surface will leave a wet residue after absorption. It will already show gaps in the paint, which should not be fixed right away.
- It is necessary to wait until the first layer has completely dried and then apply the second, third and more layers of paint.
In this case, everything will depend on the desired color saturation. The video shows the process of painting the surface using water-based paint.
