The most popular methods for glazing balconies
Today, there are several common methods of protecting a room from the external environment.
Glazing and decoration of loggias and balconies include the installation of:
- Wooden structure.
- Metal-plastic construction.
- Frameless design.
The wooden model will protect the room from noise and slightly increase the temperature in an isolated room.
In order to install a wooden model yourself you will need:
- Glass (3 mm) the right amount.
- Hammer.
- Nails
- Platbands.
- Brush.
- Bar 50x50mm.
- Polished slats.
- Protective agent for wooden construction.
Attention! In order for the design as a whole to turn out to be of high quality and reliable, it is recommended to additionally provide a galvanized visor. This will provide reliable protection and an attractive appearance.
Steps for installing a wooden structure
When finishing and glazing loggias and balconies, it is necessary to free the room from all objects and clean up to concrete. The surface is free from dust, dirt and other contaminants.
After carrying out all the preparatory work, it is necessary to perform an accurate measurement.
Attention! Installation and manufacturing is done with a minimum clearance of a wooden box.
The design is made of bars, which make up the whole frame around the perimeter along the railing, walls and ceiling and are attached using brackets. After installing the frame, the crate is mounted and the walls are sheathed.
Only after all finishing work, frames with glasses are installed.
Tip. Glazing of balconies and decoration should be made in a single ensemble. Lining or wooden panels are quite suitable for a wooden frame.
In our case, the glazing method is divided into:
- Simple.
- Combined.
- Euro glazing.
Each of the methods is unique in its own way and has a number of certain advantages. In order to install a wooden structure, the usual glazing method is suitable.
Balcony frames can be bought ready-made or ordered by individual sizes, then the price will be much higher. And you can do it yourself, for this you will need instructions and a profiled wooden beam.
Glass is inserted into the grooves of the bars and nailed with nails and trihedral laths.
After the glazing and decoration of the balconies is completed, thorough cracks are made with insulating materials, such as tow. Then the platbands are mounted, and a protective layer is applied to the structure.
Glazing with a metal-plastic construction
This kind of glazing resembles a multi-layer cake, which consists of: metal, plastic and an air chamber. The design works as follows, water drains through the drainage holes, so freezing of the structure and the entire room as a whole is completely excluded.
To install plastic windows you will need:
- Hammer or drill with a drill 8mm.
- Construction gun.
- Hammer.
- Putty knife.
- Knife.
- Screwdriver.
- Polyurethane foam.
- Foaming gun.
- Self-tapping screws or dowels.
Tip. If the installation is done independently, it is recommended that you first familiarize yourself with the step-by-step video installation instructions.
Before finishing the balconies and glazing, it is necessary to carefully measure, but do not leave large tolerances.
So:
- First of all, proportions are determined with maximum accuracy. To determine the exact symmetry, both diagonals are defined.
The difference between them should not exceed 5 mm. In this case, the angles should be strictly perpendicular (90 g).
Attention! When measuring, a gap of up to 15 mm is taken into account.
- It is also necessary to pay attention that it is not recommended to raise the frame to the upper floor already with double-glazed windows inserted in order to avoid distortions and various damages. When the frame is installed, make sure that the wedges do not stick out.
- When installing the frame, spacer wedges are made across the width of the structure. The frame, in turn, is mounted on spacer wedges.
The use of additional fasteners will allow you to fix and align the frame with maximum accuracy. After blowing the frame with foam, it will take 8 hours to keep the structure closed.
Frameless glazing of balconies and loggias
This is a new glazing method, but, despite its small existence, the frameless method has occupied one of the first niches among its competitors, see photo. Tempered glass is a very durable material that can withstand any load.
The thickness of the glass will directly depend on the size. With a construction height of more than 2 meters, glass (8 mm thick) is used.
The width of the sash in this case is equal to 60-80 cm, if desired, the glass can be additionally tinted.
The operation process is very simple. First, the extreme leaf opens, with the help of the upper lock, which resembles a floor lamp, then the leaf moves out of the lower and upper frame.
After that, a plastic handle is used.
Frameless glazing consists of:
- Profile (top and bottom).
- Glass.
- Glass overlay (top and bottom).
- Floor lamp.
- Plastic lock.
- Rubber compressor.
- Latch and fixing tape.
Attention! A fixing tape is needed for the flaps so that they do not swing and are securely fastened.
Installation of the structure is simple. In the upper and lower parts, an aluminum trim is attached to the glass wings.
Then hinges with rollers are installed, hinges are attached to the glass guide profiles, which is very similar to a sliding wardrobe.
The design consists of the following components:
- Glass.
- Wheels and ball bearing device.
- Aluminum profile (lower and upper).
- Latch and slide device, also lower latch.
- Gasket.
- Ebb that has a plastic coating.
As with other designs, after the glazing and decoration of the loggia has been carried out, loggia insulation. Seals are put on the edge of the glass.
Attention! Seals are easy to dismantle, resulting in ventilation gaps of up to 3 mm. And external seals protect the structure from moisture. The gaps between the walls and sashes are filled with sealant to the appropriate color.
How to insulate and sheathe a balcony: types of materials
Finishing and glazing of balconies also provides for the selection of material for high-quality insulation and lining of the room. Today, the market offers many materials for interior decoration of balconiesbut we will consider the most common.
How to decorate a balcony with drywall
Drywall installation can be carried out simultaneously with a heat insulator. As an insulating material, for example, consider foam.
To finish the plasterboard balcony, we need:
- Polyfoam, as an insulator.
- Moisture-resistant GLK.
- Profile P50X27.
- Construction foam for joints.
- Electric drill or hammer drill.
- Self-tapping screws.
- Hardware and fasteners.
- Scissors for metal.
The main idea of insulation and decoration is that the foam is inserted between galvanized profiles. To do this, it is necessary to clearly see that the foam thickness matches the width of the guide profile.
Then the sheets will be firmly held between the profiles.
As fasteners for guide profiles, dowel nails or self-tapping screws are used. The lowest guide is not fastened first, since initially it is necessary to evenly lay the foam sheets.
After the first row of insulation, installation is carried out one after another.
After installation, the lower profile is already firmly fixed to the floor. Polyfoam is installed using adhesive mastic and fixing “fungi”.
Attention! After the insulation is installed, anyway there are cracks from which cold air will pass.
To seal, you need a mounting foam. After complete drying, plasterboard sheathing is performed.
GLK sheets are fastened with self-tapping screws on top of the foam onto metal profiles. As a final finish, dry mixes are used for sealing seams, crevices and other details.
Lining the loggia
The glazing of the loggia and decoration should be made in a single ensemble. Wooden lining will perfectly combine with a wooden frame.
Finishing begins with the selection of high-quality material, the following materials will be a suitable option for loggias:
- Larch.
- Pine.
- Linden.
For a quick and high-quality finish, you will need a set of tools:
- Electric drill.
- Screwdriver.
- Hacksaw or jigsaw.
- Level.
- Hammer.
- Roulette.
Tip. When choosing a lining as a finishing material for a loggia, there is an opportunity to save on a heat insulator, since the material itself is an excellent insulation.
Also, you will additionally need:
- Bar 50x50.
- Hardware.
- Vapor barrier film.
- Insulation.
- Corners and baseboards are decorative.
- The material itself (lining).
The cleaned walls are initially primed. Such an operation will prevent drips from the street from precipitation.
Then the bars are installed in increments of 50 cm. Thus, we mount the crate under the lining.
Attention! Despite the fact that the material is initially processed, it is still recommended to use protective equipment that is resistant to wet environments.
The insulation is installed between the battens, on top of the primer. Before installing the heat insulator, experts recommend aligning the walls to the maximum so that the material can be installed evenly.
After the insulator, the lining itself is mounted first on one wall with nails and screws. Fasteners are hidden in that part of the lining, which closes next row.
Thus, the entire balcony is sheathed. Then, skirting boards are mounted around the perimeter of the floor and ceiling.
Along with the above materials, many users prefer finishing with plastic panels. This is an inexpensive, but very easy to install material.
Wall cladding is made after the ceiling structure. The choice wall decoration material directly depends on the frame, cost and personal preferences.
