Wet plaster is used quite often, it is perfect for office and residential premises. Moreover, wet plastering with your own hands is applied quite simply, here you need to do everything according to the technology and qualitatively prepare the base plane.

Today we will talk about this topic, you will find out what types of wet plaster are and the rules for their application. You can also select the desired texture on the video in this article.

Wet plaster: types and rules of application

Wet facade plaster - this is wet plaster, which consists of silk or cellulose threads, mixed in dry ordinary glue. Do-it-yourself wet plaster is applied to the surface without any problems. But, first of all, it must be correctly selected.

It is divided into two types:

For exterior surfacesThis species has a larger fraction. It tolerates temperature extremes and high humidity.
For interior surfacesFor the outside of the room it is not recommended to use. She reacts rather poorly to low temperatures and will not last long.

Now let's look at what it is and how it is applied. You need to know what you want to purchase, and after that only make a purchase.

So:

  • Before use, the dry mixture is diluted with water and applied to the walls with a plastic trowel or spatula.
  • Liquid wallpaper require careful preparation of the walls, and the application technique allows a specialist who has minimal skills to do this.
  • Before applying the wall, it is advisable to prime (see Primer walls for wallpaper: why and how to do it) They are usually applied in two layers, after which they dry for 48 hours.
  • Liquid wallpaper applied to the wall is a continuous carpet, as if woven from a certain type of material, and to the touch it resembles a soft, warm surface that creates cosiness in the room.
  • The composition of liquid wallpaper usually includes sparkles, which makes such walls unusual and original. Such a coating is preferred by residents of the northern regions, since such walls make housing more comfortable.
  • Liquid wallpaper can be used in new buildings as an ideal option. The fact is that after commissioning, multi-storey buildings are subject to shrinkage, which leads to the appearance of various kinds of cracks.
  • Cracks do not appear on walls covered with liquid wallpaper, since a soft and elastic surface can compensate for such efforts, and such a coating can be very durable and last until scheduled repairs.
  • Its price is not high, and by applying the solution to the wall with your own hands, you will greatly reduce costs.

Material and its features

Silk plaster is a modern material for decorative decoration of premises, both residential and non-residential.

Wet silk decorative plaster includes the following list of components:

  • Polyester.
  • Cotton.
  • Cellulose.
  • Acrylic additives.
  • Multi-colored silk fibers.

The interior trimmed with materials looks rich, which includes fibers of large sizes (relatively large).

Attention: In the case of putty or wallpaper, before finishing the walls with such materials, you must carefully level or grind. If this is not done, large irregularities will be visible through the wallpaper, not to mention silk-screen printing, through which the smallest specks of dust appear. Putty also requires a jewelry approach, especially if painting is planned.

  • Liquid wallpaper solves this problem, moreover, they are able to hide some irregularities, especially since this coating has no seams. “Wet silk” can dramatically change the appearance of the room, and irregularities pass into the category of design ideas.
  • It should be added that with its help it is possible to close any cracks that are on the surface at the joints of skirting boards, moldings, platbands, etc., which is difficult to do when using other finishing materials.

Advantages of such coverage:

  • Liquid wallpaper - This is an environmentally friendly finishing material.
  • The composition of the material includes an antisepticwhich makes it resistant against mold and mildew.
  • Increased elastic properties do not allow cracking.
  • Among other things, this material has heat and soundproofing properties.
  • Relatively low price, which allows it to be used in various fields of construction finishing.

Like any facing or building material, silk-based decorative plaster has several disadvantages:

  • The coating is able to absorb odors and moisture, which means that it cannot be used in rooms with high humidity, as well as in rooms with a high saturation of odors.
  • When applied to a dirty, unprepared plane, the appearance of a dirty surface is possible on the plaster over time.
  • It has poor endurance to mechanical stresses, which makes it impossible to use it in places of intense movement of people.

Application Rules

Video decorative plaster wet silk will show all the details of the work. Before applying liquid silk, you need to do basic work on preparing the surface. Traces of dirt should be removed from the wall and, if possible, medium and large cracks should be puttied, and if there is a large curvature, evened.

To carry out the application of finishing materials, the following tools will be required:

  • The mixer with a drill.
  • Spatula of various sizes.
  • Capacity for preparing the working mixture and washing the tool.

The application procedure is identical to the application of other finishing materials with a liquid consistency (the same putty).

After the preparatory work, you can start decorating, adhering to simple recommendations:

  • The mixture is prepared mechanically and in no case with your hands.
  • After mixing the mixture, she is allowed to infuse for several minutes.
  • The mixture is applied to the wall with a spatula or trowel.

Attention: The consumption of wet silk depends on its texture: the more large threads are present in the solution, the greater its consumption. Consumption also depends on how smooth the surface is.

  • If the surface is carefully prepared, then the consumption will be minimal. As always, all this is calculated and a decision is made depending on what will be cheaper: to prepare a quality wall or to be ready for additional material and financial costs. In this case, it is necessary to take into account not only the cost of the material, but also the costs of preparatory work.
  • In some cases, liquid wallpaper is applied using a spray if the mixture has a very fine texture, but these works require great professionalism.
  • After application, the liquid plaster is left in this state until completely dry. In order to simplify the maintenance of such a surface, it is coated with acrylic varnish, which also increases its durability and resistance to external influences. Varnish can be applied using a roller, which significantly accelerates this process.

Three ways to apply liquid silk

Plaster decorative wet silk can be applied in three versions.

Depending on the type of application technology chosen, various visual effects are obtained:

  1. The effect of harvested silk can be obtained in the following way: before coating the finishing substance, the surface must be covered with a primer (1-2 layers) and allowed to dry for four hours, after which the main layer of liquid silk is applied. This layer is dried for 2 to 3 hours, and then wet silk is randomly packed with a wet sponge and smoothed out after 15-20 minutes using a plastic spatula, creating a specific pattern.
  2. The effect of wet silk. The surface is primed and then the main layer is applied, as in the first embodiment. After drying, another layer is applied on top, in fragments of 1-2 square meters. Without allowing this layer to dry on its surface with the help of a trowel, spatula or round object, various curls are formed in size.
  3. The effect of classic silk is obtained in a slightly different way. As in the previous methods, the surface is primed and a base coat is applied, after which it is allowed to dry for 4 hours. After that, another layer is applied in fragments of 4-5 square meters, and with wide sweeping movements of the tool, a kind of smoothing of the surface occurs. Movements are made in different directions. This technology is well suited for corridors, living rooms and lounges.
