Features of the finish plaster panel
A three-dimensional stucco panel can make the interior stunning in its beauty and elegance of the image. It is hard to imagine that this work of art is made of simple building material, which is used to level walls (see Alignment of walls with plaster according to all the rules) This panel is usually quite large and in the interior of the room is a central element.
This requires it to comply with some requirements:
- For a panel, it is advisable to highlight a separate wall on which there will be no decoration elements.
- The panels look nicely in niches, especially with beautiful lighting.
The advantages of a relief image from decorative plaster are:
- Their unusual beauty in the interior.
- Possibility of application in any interior style:
- antique;
- East
- Empire style;
- classic;
- minimalist.
- To perform the panel, conventional plaster is used - universal building material, from which you can sculpt, draw, cut, produce images of any color and size.
The performance technique determines the type of pattern from decorative plaster.
It could be:
- Volumetric screen panel. In the manufacture of the simplest type of image. They are performed on a previously plastered wall or on a prepared portable surface, which may be from:
- drywall;
- hardboard;
- plywood.
Plaster is applied through a special stencil, after which the drawing is tinted with paints. This type of panel is used when decorating walls with different images, medallions of the ceiling surface. In this case, it is enough to watch once a master class of a panel from plaster, and then play it yourself.
- Painted panels, relief graphics. In this case, the image is applied to a fresh coating layer with ordinary wooden sticks, specially pointed.
Tip: Apply the drawing must be done within 20-30 minutes, until the plaster has hardened.
Further, the panel is painted with paints. This can be done schematically or completely.
- The panels are stucco. They are convex paintings with a variety of images:
- geometric shapes;
- flowers, as in the photo;
- landscapes;
- animals;
- with nudity.
- Combined wall panels. Performed using several techniques. Then they can be decorated:
- paints;
- varnish;
- natural stone.
Tip: A panel can become a real decoration of a room, only taking into account the features of the interior of the room and its functional purpose.
How to prepare for applying panels
Before you make a panel of plaster, you need to purchase materials and tools. In addition to decorative plaster and various colors, the image can be supplemented with the most unexpected elements.
It can be:
- Beads.
- Beautiful pebbles.
- Multi-colored glass.
- Seashells and corals.
- All kinds of ropes, ribbons.
- Little mirrors.
This will require a simple set of tools and devices:
- A small container for mixing the plaster mix.
- Several, different widths, spatulas.
- Paper sticky tape or tape.
- Wet sponges for cleaning tools.
From the option of choosing a technique for applying panels, you may need:
- Stencils and patterns.
- Pointed wooden sticks.
- Construction rollers.
- Aerosol glue.
- Acrylic paint.
Application of decorative plaster on the wall does not require special surface preparation:
- It is enough to remove the old coating.
- Apply a primer to a clean, well-dried wall (see Why do we need a primer: technological nuances of finishing work), how to do this in detail shows the video in this article. The primer increases the bond strength of the material and prevents the absorption of moisture by conventional plaster from the decorative layer.
While the surface is drying out:
- Thumbnails of the selected image or stencils are prepared.
- Available improvised materials are laid out in a convenient manner, which will save time when performing basic work.
What are the types of relief for three-dimensional drawing?
When performing a stucco pattern on the walls, in addition to the motive and color, the depth and type of relief are selected, which has a special effect on the appearance. There can be several types of reliefs, and their price can be very different.
It:
- Today, bas-relief is the most common type of relief, having the best aesthetic appearance, lightweight and not intrusive. The bas-relief of decorative plaster can be applied with a thick or thin layer of plaster, when the bulge is not more than 3 millimeters, which is associated with the convexity of this type of relief: it can be from a small fraction to up to 1/2 the volume of the picture.
- Reverse bas-relief type of relief pattern - counter-relief. Its feature is inversion: in places where there are bulges on the bas-relief, depressions are made on the counter-relief. In decorative design, this kind is practically not used, but when it is performed, the depth of the depressions is taken no more than ½ volume using appropriate compositions.
The difference in application technology: the use of prints instead of stencils.
- The high relief is a relief drawing having a volume equal to more than 1/2 the volume of the drawing. At the same time, the image can become too intrusive and “load” the interior quite heavily, it can only be used in spacious rooms.
According to the application technology, the solution can be covered with several thick layers due to the very large volume and a significant proportion of sculptural processing.
- A special relief is the image of Koilanaglif. These are three-dimensional contours of the picture, and its plane is made "flush" with the wall, at the level of the wall surface.
The image is made in a special recess of the wall, it is plastered “flush” with the plane, and then a drawing is immediately made by cutting the recesses in the places of its contours.
This is the easiest terrain type to execute.
How to create a decorative plaster panel on the wall
Instructions for decorating a wall with a panel on it offer:
- On a freshly applied plaster base with wooden sticks, the selected pattern is drawn. This is done arbitrarily or using a stencil. When using stucco technique, convex image elements are applied with a spatula or trowel. The plasticity of the material allows you to simulate the fine details of the composition with a spatula and even with your hands.
- In several stages, bulges or indentations are created until the desired size is obtained.After the decorative plaster has completely dried, irregularities are carefully cut. The material hardens within 9 - 36 hours, which depends on the method of applying the image and the room temperature.
- The dried pattern is painted or varnished. Paints are applied with ordinary brushes, a small roller or sponge.
Some tips for applying the mural on the wall:
- The drawing should be applied in small areas, this is due to the fact that after only 20 minutes the plaster dries.
- To create a good visual effect, it is better to prepare special textured rollers (see Rollers for decorative plastering and creating a relief surface).
- Trowels and spatulas should be cleaned as often as possible. To do this, use a damp and then dry rag.
Tip: Each step of applying the material should be done with smooth, clean tools.
- When drawing a picture only on a part of the wall, it is better to use masking tape or ordinary tape, which can easily be removed immediately after the process. This will make the edges of the panel even and neat.
- Masking tape will help to conveniently fix the stencils so that there is no displacement of the patterns when they are applied.
When creating three-dimensional images, you need to have the artist’s skills, to feel how deep the relief and proportions of the drawing should be.
