Types of decorative plaster

Stucco of decorative type can be divided into a large number of types: by the type of the composite element of communication, the material - the basis, the formation factors or the type of laying of the images on the base. The main classification is based on fillers that are in its content.

Let's look at the types of plaster available on the modern market:

Textured plasterSuch a seamless texture, decorative plaster is most common. At the moment, it is the most famous and often used, besides it has a very reasonable price.
  • The composition of this plaster includes fillers from parts of trees, crumbs of the mineral plan, mica and other elements of the composition.
  • Due to the presence of such a composition, the base, which is covered with such plaster, begins to acquire a 3D effect. A unique effect of the volumetric image of the coating appears, it is not just a flat surface of any color.
  • To consolidate this effect or even strengthen its level, sometimes special rollers are used in construction or repair.

Structural plasterThe composition of this building material includes a set of natural stones, there is also quartz in the composition.
  • Such plaster differs from textured in that it has a uniform character. Sometimes such a coating resembles a tree, this is due to the fact that it is fine-grained in composition. It is for this reason that structural plaster is also called a “bark beetle” (see Stucco bark beetle: application technology).
  • There is also the opportunity to create the impression of a mosaic. The fraction level is much higher than that of structural plaster.

Venetian plasterIt has a rather high price, but gives a feeling of luxury and wealth to the coating and the premises as a whole. The basis and basis are marble chips.
  • This type of plaster is usually laid if there is a desire and the opportunity to create a room in a classic design style. Due to the uniform level of the layer, it acts as an excellent basis for the manufacture of truly magnificent projects.
  • Note that in order to work with Venetian plaster, you need skill and a short management experience with building materials of this kind.

Facade type plasterAbsolutely any fillers can be added to this type of plaster.
  • The main advantage of other analogues is a high level of strength to changes in temperature, high noise and sound insulation characteristics.
  • It perfectly stores heat indoors, looks great. Protects walls and facade surfaces from changes and deformation. Recently, facade plaster is gaining more and more popularity among masters of construction and repair.
  • Due to the presence of large granules in the composition, it is best suited for external styling. If you have indoor repairs, then we select for laying plaster with small granules, so you can achieve a lower level of roughness of the room.

Gypsum plasterIt has a high level of security, it is completely environmentally friendly. This is achieved by the fact that the composition includes gypsum and fillers made of polymers.
  • Most often in practice gypsum plaster used to work with ceilings and walls of a brick or concrete base.
  • To the undoubted advantages of gypsum plaster, you can add its highest level of strength, plastic, and it also perfectly levels the base of the coating.

Seamless plaster texture can be quite different in composition, so there is a different price. But do not chase the cheapness. Give preference to trusted brands. Let the price be a little higher, but you win in the durability of the coating.

We prepare a surface for laying

For any type of coating when applying plaster, it is first necessary to prepare the surface in a special way.

Plane preparation
Plane preparation
  • First of all, we remove the previous coating in full: we clean the walls of old wallpaper, use a putty knife to work, the coating can be sprayed a little with water to facilitate the process. We also remove all remaining parts: a spatula, a special hair dryer for construction, you can buy special solvents.
  • As soon as we completely removed and cleaned the old coating, you need to wash the wall or ceiling: we take an ordinary rag and detergents. If the base has a large number of cracks and holes, then the first thing to do is to repair and align them. It also depends on the type of plaster, for example, the Venetian requires a perfectly even coating. We use ordinary putty for such types of work.
  • Primed surface must be in any case. Using a layer of soil we will remove all scratches and cracks, they increase the adhesive properties. For a certain type of plaster, a special primer is also needed, from here manufacturers of building materials immediately write their recommendations on the boxes.

Attention: If the wall has metal in its composition, then it must first be treated with a special composition, otherwise you can find out later after repairing the brown heel from corrosion and rust.

If the walls have just been erected, and so far there is no previous coating on it, then you can only put a layer of lime on the surface. Although specialists in construction and repair, even in this case, are advised to use primers for preliminary surface preparation.

List of required tools

In order to do a quality job of laying putty, you need to choose a special set of tools, although the minimum set can be defined as follows: spatulas of different types, iron, containers for the building material itself, a set of rollers, varnishes and paints. Paint is used to give the plaster a special and desired color, and varnish is a fixing agent for paint and a layer of soil.

Apply the plaster to the surface.

In order to correctly and skillfully lay decorative type plaster, the first thing to do is preparatory work for its application.

Attention: If you bought ready-made plasters, then you need to pay close attention to the expiration date of this building material and look at the conditions of its operation.

Next, we produce the mixing of the finished composition and join in the work of laying the coating layer. The plasters begin to harden for a long time, from here there is absolutely no need to rush to put the material.

It is also worth saying that the material must be ductile. Its uniformity can be achieved by using a drill with a nozzle in the manufacture.

So:

  • If dry plaster was at your disposal, then the manufacturer took care of the proportions and noted this information in the instructions.Dry plaster quickly hardens, so you need to do it immediately in such a way that all the necessary amount of work is done in one go, otherwise we will see hardened plaster directly in our container, from here we will have to hurry a bit.
  • We put the finished composition with a spatula in the same even layer on the prepared surface, as soon as it begins to harden, we begin to create a relief base. For such work, we need rollers, brushes, any parts of the products to create an indescribable variety of patterns. The work is done in different ways, we apply all the available tools and conduct them on the basis, everything is limited only by the flight of your imagination. The thickness of the plaster is made dependent on the number and complexity of the patterns, as well as on the effect that you plan to create in your room during the repair and construction.
  • Usually in practice they make a patterned surface in the form of rain and stripes of a different nature. The work starts from the corners of the surface, there you can practice a little and get the right level of skill. The whole process should occur quickly, since you need to monitor the absence of joints.
  • As soon as the surface shine passes (about twenty minutes), we take a smoothing machine and work on the surface, smoothing the laying base. We periodically wash our tool in water.
  • After a day, we pass along the surface with a sandpaper.
  • Particular difficulties arise when laying the Venetian surface, you yourself can not cope.
  • If you have developed talent, you can create magnificent and unique patterns on the wall, you can start working right away from the center of the base.

The seamless texture of plaster is not as complex as creative. It will take a lot of time. So be patient and get to work.
