Stucco walls on lighthouses: videos and rules
Lighthouse plastering is a method of leveling walls before finishing work. You can do this work yourself if you know the rules for choosing lighthouses and plasters, as well as the technology of fastening profiles and applying material.

The advantages of plastering on lighthouses
Stucco walls on lighthouses (a video of the work will be given at the end of the article) has the following advantages:
- reliable adhesion with a favorite kind of building base;
- moisture resistance, so the plaster can be used to finish surfaces in the bathroom, pool, kitchen and other rooms with high humidity;
- resistance to mechanical damage;
- perfect surface alignment;
- affordable price for all materials that are used in the course of work.
Lighthouse selection
Lighthouses for wall plastering are guides, which, in essence, are limiters (in the process) of applying plaster. Depending on the material of manufacture, products are classified into several types:
- Metal profiles. Advantages - ease of use and affordable cost. Disadvantages - after applying the plaster, the products are dismantled, some profiles are deformed at the time of installation on the surface, profiles cannot be reused.
- Wooden guides. Advantages - reasonable cost and the possibility of repeated use. Despite this, professional craftsmen rarely use such profiles.
- Plastic beacons. Advantages - ease of use and reusability. The disadvantage is the high price.
- Flood guides. Such beacons are recommended for use in plastering complex building foundations. Guides are made from repair mortar. Small areas with a flat top are formed from the material on the surface. Guides do not dismantle after plastering and do not require additional costs, but the use of such beacons requires certain skills in construction, therefore they are not recommended for use by unprofessional finishers.
Plaster selection
As video tutorials show, wall plastering on lighthouses begins with the choice of guides and the material itself.
The choice of plaster depends on the base material:
- For a concrete surface, it is recommended to use cement mixtures. Do not use gypsum-based formulations. Such material will quickly fall off the concrete base. Stucco walls on lighthouses with cement mortar has a long operational period. In addition, the mortar reliably adheres to the concrete surface.
- For brick substrates, any plaster is suitable. To save money, professionals advise using a solution containing sand and cement, because it has the lowest consumption. If the material is applied with a layer whose thickness exceeds 5 mm, then before using the product, a reinforcing mesh is fixed on the base.
- For surfaces made of gas and foam blocks, it is recommended to use mixtures that are designed specifically for these building bases. Other solutions will not work because surfaces have poor adhesion.
- For gypsum blocks, gypsum and lime-gypsum compounds are suitable. Cement mortars are not compatible with such substrates.
Materials and Tools
To perform the plastering of walls on lighthouses, as the video tutorials show, the following materials and tools will be required:
- lighthouses;
- plaster;
- a primer;
- brush, roller or spray;
- fasteners (dowels and screws);
- construction level and plumb;
- a hammer, metal scissors and a Phillips screwdriver;
- drill with mixer nozzle or construction mixer for the preparation of the composition;
- container for preparing the mixture and containers for the primer;
- wide spatula;
- rule for material alignment;
- measuring tool (tape measure);
- gloves.
Rules for plastering
As the video shows, plastering walls on lighthouses is performed in a certain sequence.
Foundation preparation
The first stage of work is the preparation of the building foundation. Remove the old coating (as in the photo below). After this, tap the surface with a hammer to identify defects. If cracks are found, then increase their size. Then prime the defect and fill with repair mortar.
Inspect the surface for mold and mildew. If foci of harmful microorganisms are found, treat them with an antiseptic solution.
If there are large differences on the surface, they are recommended to be eliminated. This can be done with a hammer and a chisel or other similar tool.
Primer application
Primer Application Instructions:
- Clean the surface of dust. To do this, use a construction vacuum cleaner, broom or brush.
- Apply the first coat of primer with a brush, roller or spray gun. Stop work to dry composition.
- Apply a second coat of primer. When the primer dries, proceed to fixing the beacons.
Profile Lock
Before putting beacons for plastering walls, you need to make markings. To do this, deviate 30 cm from the corners. Depart 15 cm from the ceiling and floor and install dowels at these points and screw the screws. Draw a line along these marks. Then indent 160 cm from the line and draw a similar strip. Make such markings to the end of the wall.
If we talk about how to install beacons for plastering walls, there are two ways to do this:
- Fixing guides to the repair solution. Prepare the cement composition. Apply the mortar to the building base in small areas with equal distance. The thickness of such "portions" should be greater than the depth of the beacon. Attach a profile to the material and press it so that the product is completely immersed in the solution.
- Fixing beacons on fasteners. Drill holes for dowels at a distance of 30 cm from each other. Insert the dowels into them and screw the screws. Hats of self-tapping screws should be at the same level. Fix the fasteners on the hats and install profiles on them.
Solution preparation
Put dry plaster in a clean container and add water. Proportions are indicated on the package. Use a drill with a mixer head or construction mixer to knead the material. Stir the mixture until a thick sour cream is obtained.
Application of the composition
Lighthouse plastering, as the video in this article shows, is done as follows:
- put the solution on a wide spatula;
- apply plaster to the surface, including those areas that are located under the beacons;
- attach the rule to the beacons and swipe the tool from top to bottom (this will help remove excess mortar and level the surface);
- after the composition hardens, dismantle the profiles and fill the voids with plaster.
Shutdown
Wall plastering on beacons is completed by grinding the surface:
- sandpaper P 809, P 100, P 120 or P 150 clean the surface in a circular motion;
- carry out the procedure until the plaster ceases to accumulate on the material;
- Moisten a building foundation with water and apply a primer.
