Design Features with Panels
Panels as a topcoat in interiors are not used for continuous cladding of all walls. Their main task is to create a decorative effect.
In order to focus on a beautiful relief, it should be served on a neutral background. That is why they are usually mounted only on one wall - unless, of course, this is an office.
- Much depends on the type of panels: you cannot compare classic panels made of solid wood, and decorative cladding with a 3D effect. Each option has its own aesthetics, so it can be used in different ways.
There is no point in detailing about the installation of panels, since these technologies also differ. To do this, there is a manufacturer's manual, which is always attached to the products.
We will try to give you a general idea of the types of wall decorative panels, as well as those design options that can be implemented with their help.
Wood and wood composite
If we talk about panels as a finishing material, the first thing that any person will remember is wood lining. This version of wall decoration has long become a classic in interior design, which is why panels made of solid wood are called “classic”.
So:
- Such architectural styles as: Provence, Art Nouveau, English - also practically do not do without wooden panels. Their presence in the interior automatically classifies it as respectable. The figurative expression: “expensive and rich,” is very suitable for determining the status of such a room.
- Simply, in a classic design, panels are usually tinted so as to emphasize the natural pattern and color inherent in wood. They are used mainly for decorating living rooms, lobbies and cabinets.
And, let's say, in the style of Provence, panels are more likely to use white. At the same time, they fit perfectly even into the interior of the bedroom - which we see in the photo above. - Classic panels can be square and rectangular, but have a special structure that distinguishes this material from any other. The detail is as follows: the panel has a frame; central shield; layout as well as the cornice, base and the elements connecting them. The dimensions of the panels can vary, but on average it is 1000 * 400 mm.
- Ceiling options can be a tile 330 * 330 mm, or have a European standard size 600 * 600 mm, and can be used for installation of suspended modular ceilings (seeCeiling Finish: Consider Popular Options) They are often sold in the kit, where panel panels are complemented by caissons or various decorative layouts.
- The price of panels made of solid wood depends not only on their size, but also on the type of wood from which they are made, and from 2000 apiece it is just beginning. Their design also matters - carved panels, naturally cost more, from 6000 rubles.
- In residential premises, classic panels are mounted only on the lower perimeter of the walls, in the offices they can be installed up to the ceiling. Their installation is carried out on a wooden crate.
There is a groove on the sides of each panel, and it connects to the neighboring panel through a special interpanel insert - it is not very difficult to do this with your own hands. - As a cheaper alternative, manufacturers offer veneered MDF panels, and even laminated plywood. There are options that are recruited from individual rails - they can be seen in corridor decoration, vestibules, walls along staircases.
- There are many other types of panels made of natural wood. They can be in the form of a rectangular shield with a smooth or milled surface, they can be long, cut, or, as in the picture above, imitate a board surface.
- A good substitute for solid wood panels is composite wood-polymer panels. In fact, these are chipboards with a laminated surface that are familiar to everyone. The only difference is that acrylic resins are added to the composition of the raw materials during their manufacture. This component gives the product extra strength and moisture resistance.
- After all, everyone knows that as soon as the chipboard absorbs moisture, it begins to warp and exfoliate. This is the lobby's interior design country house, which we see in the example above, with traditional chipboards would be simply impossible.
Polymer wood has no such defects, and lasts a very long time. Therefore, composite cladding panels for interior decoration are gaining more and more popularity: in their beauty they can compete with natural wood, and even outperform it in physical and mechanical properties.
Volume Relief Panels
Most wall panels can be called composite, as their production technologies involve the use of several components to create a raw material mass.
So:
- The only exceptions are gypsum panels, which do not need to add polymer resins or other binders to give the product the desired shape. Gypsum itself is an astringent.
- The beauty of gypsum panels is undeniable. Having silicone compounds, it is possible to make such panels even at home, because for this, in addition to gypsum and water, nothing is needed.
Unless, more fiberglass mesh, which is reinforced for strength products. - Mount gypsum panels in an adhesive manner. Their surface can be painted by choosing a shade that is most suitable for the interior.
Compete with them in beauty can, perhaps, eco-panels, which are made from cellulose fibers, chopped bamboo or reeds, wood chips. - In appearance, it’s even difficult to determine which panels are in front of you: gypsum or bamboo. If we compare both options in the factory version, then packing bamboo panels of 500 * 500 mm of 6 pieces costs 4,650 rubles. (775 rubles apiece).
Gypsum panel 600 * 600 mm, depending on the design, can cost much more: 1400 rubles. a piece.
- Another composite option for wall decoration is fiber cement panels. They are made on the basis of cement and cellulose fiber, and are used both for facade cladding and for exterior decoration.
They also have a beautiful relief. It can contain an abstract pattern, like gypsum and bamboo panels, and it can imitate stone, brick, or wood. - Fiber cement panels are mounted on the frame, which is very convenient if you need to insulate the wall. The methods for attaching them may vary, depending on the manufacturer: locks of various designs, hidden screws.Read the instructions, watch the video - and there will be no problems.
Of course, such panels are not used to decorate the entire room. Usually this is the bottom of the wall, or one wall to which the fireplace adjoins, or, for example, there is a dining table.
The popularity of the relief of masonry in the interior is only growing. But how to design a room in the loft style, if the house is not brick, but, say, frame-panel? Fiber cement panels under a brick or stone, and there is the very option that will help out in such a situation.
