The article talks about how the entrance doors are finished. The article also explains which finishing method and for which is more suitable.
In addition, the article provides an explanation of the categories of cladding materials.
It is believed that any home should begin with a hallway. However, this is far from always the case.
The house, for the most part, begins precisely with the front door. It was she who was the first to tell a lot about how the homeowner breathes.
This is the reason that the choice of this element must be approached very carefully both from the point of view of the functional, and from the side of beauty and aesthetics. However, it is not enough to finish only the door itself; in addition, the door jamb should also be finished.
Only in this case the whole structure will look finished and beautiful (of course, if, in addition to this, the entrance door sill has been properly decorated).

What do the doors usually get off

Video on the theme of “decorating entrance doors” can be found in large numbers on the World Wide Web. The photos in this article show how to trim the front door.
The main entrance door is usually metal.
Depending on the type of finish, the type of execution is divided into the following groups:

  • Wooden;
  • Plastic
  • From painted metal;
  • Having glass inserts.

The most original options, in addition, can be designed using parts made of genuine leather or artificial stone. For those who are a lover of glamorous stuff, the door can even be decorated with Swarovski crystals.
But, besides the usual beauty, an equally important point is the door's resistance to wear. For a door intended for installation in a country house, it is also important that its design must be very durable.
The door installed in houses with many apartments does not have to be sunscreen, but must have a vandal-proof coating.

Viniplast and laminate

Vinyl plastic has always been considered the most popular material for finishing. The patch panel of this material is a two-layer sandwich made of fiberboard, on which a PVC film is applied.
This material is practically not resistant to ultraviolet radiation. This leads to the fact that over time, their surface burns out.
Although these panels have a special spraying, they are almost not protected from strong mechanical and other aggressive influences. In addition, the vinyl plastic deteriorates at temperatures below -20 degrees (the coating film cracks and begins to peel off).
The main advantage of this material can be called a huge number of colors and patterns. Some manufacturers, sometimes, cover their products with a coating of anti-vandal plastic.
This provides many benefits:

  • It practically does not scratch.
  • Not subject to burnout.
  • It has high moisture resistance.

All this allows, without fear of damage, to use doors with such a coating for installation in a country house. The basis of this plastic are panels made of MDF (see.Do-it-yourself door trim with MDF panels), with a special polymer coating.
In addition, the anti-vandal type coating can simulate almost any surface (the only difficulty is creating relief on it). Another option for plastic decor is laminate.
This material is the simplest and most unpretentious. It is a hardboard, covered with a thin film.
A large number of textures and many colors makes it possible to select a design suitable for almost any interior, although such a coating will still be very modest. Such a coating can imitate a tree, although it is impossible to perform any additional decor on it.
Another negative feature of the laminate is its low strength. This causes the refusal to laminate the doors of private houses.

Wood finish

Material such as wood does not require presentation. The wooden finish of the door is not only reliable, but also looks prestigious and modern.
Some types of finishes can turn a door into a work of art. A variety of wood types can be used for decoration.
Finishing can be made of:

  • Oak.
  • Walnut.
  • Beech wood.
  • Merbau.
  • Wenge.

Doors of a cheaper price category are finished with veneer.
Veneer is a thin wood layer that is glued to the base of particleboard or MDF. Well-crafted plywood is almost no different from solid wood.
Slices are milled so that only a tree of noble species is visible. The texture of the veneer is very beautiful, in addition, it is often given the tone of noble wood (the coating is bleached, covered with stain).
A door trimmed with plastic or wood will have additional thermal insulation, so these doors rarely freeze. Another, no less beautiful and original way may be to finish the mosaic of the front door.
When choosing the option by which the entrance door will be finished, experimentation is possible. It often happens that the door looks different from different sides.
For example, interior decoration, it is often chosen in accordance with the style of the room. There are different situations, as a result of which you have to perform such work as decorating the front door with your own hands.
An example of this is the presence of an entrance door, and a similar version of the cladding seems to be the best idea (like the Lego constructor for adults). There may be other reasons for this.

Attention!!! In the absence of relevant experience and skills, it is better not to accept such work!

We must proceed from the fact that absolutely everyone correctly believes that the total cost of all this consists of the wages of workers and the profits of the enterprise. In this case, it is not enough to have only a desire to save.
This is due to the fact that the price of materials for different categories of buyers will be very different.

A few words in the end

Although the doors to install are very often trusted by professionals of various companies, the slopes are mainly assembled by people with their own hands (and this is absolutely nothing difficult). In fact, the installation of slopes is not limited to just visual processing of the sides of the doorway.
Finishing around the front door should begin, of course, by sealing the door frame on both sides. To preserve heat in the apartment, the doorway must be properly sealed.
It is for this reason that it is necessary to carry out sealing at the very first stage.
Sealing the slopes of the entrance doors from the outside:

  • In the case where the sealing of the gap between the door frame and the wall was carried out using a mounting foam, it may be necessary to re-foam.
  • Checking the received seam for blasting. This can be done using a conventional lighter.
To do this, close the door, light a fire and hold a lighter along the seam.
  • After complete hardening, cut off the excess foam and begin to finish.

ATTENTION!!! If the gap between the door frame and the wall is not covered at all, then it is necessary to seal it only with the use of a cement mixture based on glue!

After sealing, the gap must be closed. The foam in these gaps must be covered only with cement, and in no case, not using putty or plaster.
Any, even the most detailed instructions for these works can easily be found on the Internet. Only after the cement mixture has hardened can you start installing the door trim.
It is necessary to select door platbands so that they are combined with color and design with a door. Fasten door trim to the front door with special brackets.
In addition to performing a decorative function, platbands play the role of protective elements.
In the case when the door has slopes outside, they must also be repaired. Apply for this you need the same cement.
They make slopes like this:

  • Slopes must be cleaned of the old coating and debris.
  • Then they must be coated with a primer and wait for drying.
  • After drying, it is necessary to apply a cement layer and level the wall (if there are significant irregularities, they must first be brought to “zero” and then the cement layer must be applied).

Regarding the external door slope finishes, then proceed from the location of the door. The best option would be regular painting.
If you want to make a more elegant finish, then you can finish them with a laminate or plastic. After that, you can begin work such as finishing the jambs of the front door.

There is nothing complicated in filling up the cracks with your own hands, many use foam, it’s so quick, but I don’t like this option, the foam loses its properties after some time.
