Types of Siding
Decorating the balcony outside with siding is a fairly common option. Such finishing material appeared on our market relatively recently, but has already managed to win its regular users.
Today, there are several types of material:
- Vinyl.
- Aluminum.
- Steel.
- Wood.
- Cement.
Each of these materials has its own properties and qualities.
For reference. Vinyl siding or polyvinyl chloride found wide application in the decoration of the balcony. It is used not only for decorating balconies or loggias.
The outer walls of any structure are sheathed to them, regardless of the type of building material from which they are built.
Vinyl siding is used to build frame houses and cottages. Such a finishing material can completely cover the entire wall or only its lower part.
For this reason, the use of siding can be divided into two types of facing works:
- High where vinyl is used.
- Basic, where the basement is used.
Vinyl siding is a set of panels made of polyvinyl chloride, which have a certain lock in the form of latches or certain slots for installation using self-tapping screws. The first option is quite expensive, and the second is an acceptable price and it is he who is very popular because of this.
The panels have different sizes and densities. A cheaper one has a lower density, and an expensive one option for finishing the balcony very strong and durable.
Vinyl siding can be horizontal and vertical. The choice of the type of material depends on which particular structural element will need to be performed with it.
Benefits of Vinyl Siding
Vinyl siding does not dry out, unlike wood. Also, it does not crack or rot.
Its surface will never be damaged by insects and there is no danger of ignition of such a finishing material. Vinyl siding can only melt.
Tip. This finishing material can be used both for finishing a new building, and for a rather old building. If siding can be combined with insulation, then this combination will make it possible to maintain a constant temperature regime in the room and provide excellent sound insulation, which is important for any home.
So:
- Balcony siding is popular for the reason that this decoration is non-toxic. It can also withstand a variety of temperature changes and is not exposed to weather and climatic conditions.
- Vinyl material has a large number of colors, which allows you to create a very interesting design of the balcony outside. Due to the high quality of the coloring substances that are used in the manufacture of vinyl siding, the material does not fade when exposed to direct sunlight.
- Siding does not corrode and cannot break under very low temperatures. This fact is especially important for regions that have fairly cold winters.
This material is considered environmentally friendly and does not harm the environment. - It is a practical material that is easy to care for. In order to clean its surface from contamination, you just need to rinse it with water and not use any special cleaning agents.
- Siding does not tightly cover the surface of the wall, which makes it possible to breathe the building. That is, condensation will not collect on the walls, therefore, the formation of a variety of fungal diseases is excluded.
- Well, the main advantage of such a finishing material will be that it is significantly cheaper than all existing finishing materials for working outside the balcony.
The color scheme is quite saturated, there are more than 15 colors. The most popular are bed tones, since they are very practical and they will not be visible any pollution.
This choice of most people is due to the fact that washing the outside of this finishing material will be uncomfortable every week or month. It will be enough to clean it once every 6 months.
Window siding
The process itself window decoration consists of two types of finishing work: internal and external.
Tip. If for interior decoration plaster or gypsum board is very often used, then for external decoration there is the opportunity to apply a variety of materials: decorative stone, plastic, siding and much more.
Decorating a window with siding is a very practical way to decorate a window opening. This method of decoration is very popular for a long time.
This is most suitable for outdoor use, as it has high operational and technical characteristics.
Installation can be carried out on a wall from any building material. Its installation is quite simple, especially on window openings that are not large.
Siding windows can be the final version of the decoration of any building. Even if the wall is made of brick, it will still look very original window made by siding, see photo.
Tip. Most often, vinyl siding is used for these purposes. It is easy to install, which makes it possible not to attract outside specialists and do-it-yourself siding of windows with windows will be possible even without the practice of doing such work.
Supporting materials for siding installation
In order to carry out the installation of siding with your own hands, you will need to use additional materials that help align and fix the strips of this finishing material on the surface.
So:
- The first thing you need to have is the starting line. They are used to fix the bottom row of the siding panel to the wall surface.
The J-edge is used to mount the panels and fasten them in a vertical plane. Very often, such an edge is applied around the windows to provide a neat appearance of the entire building. - The final rail is used for cladding the wall surfaces of the building. It is inserted at the top when you need to adjust the size of the siding strip to the desired size.
- In order for the corners of the building to be neat too, it will be necessary to use special external ones that hide the siding fasteners on the wall surface and are able to decorate the whole design and make it very neat.
In addition to the outer corners, there are also the inner corners of the building. This applies to modern building projects that do not have a standard form.
Internal corners for siding are applied similarly to external ones, there is nothing complicated in this. It will also be necessary to apply “F” and “H” profiles, which are used to vertically connect siding strips.
To install the siding you will need:
- Siding.
- Supporting materials.
- Screwdriver.
- Level.
- Self-tapping screws.
- Metal go wood for crate.
The strip mounting process itself is quite simple. Previously, for such work, it will be necessary to make the crate on the balcony or loggia.
It can be wooden, in which boards and bars are used, or it can be metal, which is made of metal pipes of small diameter.
Tip. In order for the siding of the balcony to be better and more durable, it will be necessary to make the crate of metal, since such a material has excellent technical characteristics and is not able to deform under the influence of moisture (if condensation forms on the crate) and does not dry out due to high temperatures, which not to say about wood.
The joints of the lathing are performed by the H-profile and overlap. The corners of the structure are covered with external corners to hide the joints of the siding panels.
In order to mount such a finishing material correctly, it is necessary to take into account the fact that the material tends to expand under the influence of direct sunlight. For this reason, it is necessary to fasten its panels with a small gap, so that the material has free space for such an expansion.
The crate itself is made in this way:
- All its elements should be 30-40 cm apart.
- The starting line is considered the most important. It sets the evenness of all subsequent bands. It will be necessary to fix it with the help of a level and a screwdriver with special self-tapping screws.
- After that, auxiliary strips are installed on the crate to maintain structural parts and their proper fastening. Then all the strips of this finishing material are assembled.
It is attached to the crate using self-tapping screws. - Only after all such actions have been completed will it be possible to fix the final strip, which will hold the strip at the top of the structure. The panels themselves will need to be placed without tension and overlap, which will significantly extend the life of the unit.
The video shows the entire installation process.
Balcony decoration using siding makes it possible to make the appearance of such a room from the outside very attractive. This design looks neat.
The process itself can be carried out with one's own hand, which will significantly save money.
