Question about decorating a bathroom in the countryside

Kuleshova Christina

Finishing bathrooms and kitchens in private wooden houses - a very common occurrence. And the point is not so much in the price of the material and the desire of the owners to save, but in the fact that such houses often "walk", so the tiles on the walls can crack or even fly off.

Plastic is a fairly practical finish option, allowing you to simultaneously solve several more problems:

  • Insulate the walls;
  • Hide water and sewer pipes;
  • Save not only on materials, but also on work, since the installation of panels can be done independently.

As for your question, I will answer on points.

Finishing Features

First of all, before the start of all facing works, it is necessary to treat the wooden walls and ceiling with an antiseptic antifungal solution. If they already have traces of fungus on them, they must be removed (scraped off) and treated with a solution of copper sulfate.

Next - the choice of materials for the crate. It can be:

  • Galvanized metal profiles used for the installation of drywall. The panels are attached to them with metal screws, the so-called "bugs";
  • Plastic battens for lathing with fixing brackets;
Panel mounting rail - ideal
Panel mounting rail - ideal
  • Wooden slats. The panels are mounted with small nails, screws or staples using a stapler.

It is preferable to use the first two types of crates - they are not susceptible to decay and are not affected by fungus, which often happens in wet rooms. In the case of using wooden slats, they, like all other wooden structures, must be treated with an antiseptic or stain before installation.

Existing vents will also help to avoid excessive moisture between the walls and cladding. Finishing the ceiling, cut a hole in the panels opposite the vent and insert a fan into it. It will draw moist air both from the room itself and from the panel space.

The fan can also be installed on the wall by connecting it to the vent pipe

In addition, when installing the panels, colorless silicone sealant can be released into the joint grooves to seal the joints.

Insulation of the outer wall

For insulation, it is best to use moisture-resistant plate materials: polystyrene, foam. It is laid between the elements of the lathing and is attached to the wall with special dowels, umbrellas with a wide hat. The joints between the plates are foamed with a mounting foam that does not contain substances that corrode the foam.

Before installing the insulation, it is necessary to revise the wall itself and, if necessary, seal the seams between the logs or the beak bar or mounting foam.
