Recommendations

Gypsum plaster absorbs moisture well and can begin to fall off walls, especially with such a heavy tile. Therefore, the walls in front of the cladding must be primed with a deep penetration primer so that they do not absorb water from the adhesive. Perfectly for this purpose, the primer Concrete. It:

  • Reduces the absorbency of the base;
  • Enhances tile adhesion to the base;
  • Suitable for all surfaces, including gypsum.

Tip. It is advisable to primer in two stages, each time waiting for the complete absorption of the composition and drying of the base.

If rooms with high humidity (kitchen, bathroom) are tiled, then such preliminary preparation will be enough. If water directly gets on the faced walls, their waterproofing is necessary.

The walls in the bathroom or shower, as well as in the kitchen, if the apron is laid out with tiles, are treated with a waterproofing composition. I recommend the elastic waterproofing mastic Ceresit CL 51. This one-component polymer mass is used to create waterproof coatings just under the tiling.

It is applied to the surface with a brush or roller. After drying, you can additionally glue the corners with waterproofing tape.

Note! For the installation of waterproofing tiles, use special glue for non-absorbent substrates!

After mounting the tiles, the joints are carefully filled with grout. Moreover, in wet rooms - waterproof. The same Ceresite has very high-quality compounds.

It is also advisable to process corners, joints of walls and floors (ceilings), as well as places where the bathtub or sink adjoins the walls with sealant.
