What is venetian stucco?

This material is not an invention of our time. Plaster was invented in ancient Rome. Once the inventor of that era combined slaked lime and marble dust. He noticed that the product has good elasticity. After applying to the surface, people saw that the material was similar to marble and began to use plaster to decorate the walls.
Later, dyes began to be added to the composition. First, clay of red tones was used. After applying the plaster, the material was coated with wax. It was difficult to distinguish such a surface from marble. Only the seamless texture of the Venetian stucco "betrayed" the material.
In the Renaissance, the composition began to be popular in Venice. Stucco replaced marble slabs. It turned out that applying such a composition to the surface is much easier than working with marble. The popularity of the product is explained not only by the external attractiveness of the finish. Venetian plaster is moisture resistant, which is important for Venice - a city where humidity is high even inside buildings. Attracted by the inhabitants of that era and low price compared to marble slabs. In our era, the cost of the material is considered high, but this does not reduce the popularity of the material.

Venetian plasters are used not only for decoration. Such compositions also have the following properties:

Application Rules

Applying Venetian plaster is a difficult procedure, so you should carefully familiarize yourself with the stages of work.

Preparing for plastering

As the video shows the master class, Venetian plaster is applied to the surface, which was previously prepared. The material is placed only on a flat building base. Therefore, before the main work the surface is plastered and sanded. After that, apply two primer layers to the base with a break for drying. Professionals advise using a deep penetration primer with antiseptic properties. Such a coating will protect the surface from mold and mildew.

Cooking Tools

Put the dry mixture in a bucket and fill the product with water. The proportions of the components are indicated on the packaging. Take an industrial mixer or drill with a mixer nozzle and stir the composition. When the material has the consistency of thick sour cream, add color. Then mix the solution again so that the dye is evenly mixed with the product.
Ready plaster does not need mixing with water. Add color to the product and mix the solution with a construction mixer or a drill with a mixer nozzle. If after opening the package it was found that the composition covers a layer of water, the liquid must be drained. Water is added over the product so that the composition does not harden. Next, the product is connected to the color and mixed with a tool. Particular attention should be paid to the walls of the bucket. Material remains on them, so part of the putty is not painted.
