Putty walls for painting with various angles
Putty for painting is an important point in the decoration of the entire plane. Especially if it is not covered with facing material. Indeed, through the wallpaper all errors will be visible.
A putty for the ceiling for painting In general, even the smallest errors will produce.
After all, this plane catches your eye immediately. Today we will deal with this issue. You will also have the opportunity to watch the video in this article and see everything with your own eyes.

Completing of the work
Before starting work, you should look at the photo and draw up a work plan. Measure the walls first, you need to determine the amount of material.
To do this, do the following:
- First we pull the line diagonally;
- We apply a level;
- We take the line and set the level to zero;
- We put marks on the wall around the edges. This will be the level of application of the material.
Attention: If your material level is more than two cm. Then you will have to apply more than one coat. To begin with, it will be necessary to start, and when there is five mm left, apply the finishing material and align everything.
Preparatory work
The spectacular appearance of the drywall construction directly depends on how correctly the preparation for putty was carried out. The presence of the slightest potholes and bumps can significantly complicate the processing of walls and delay the completion of repairs.
Caution: Before proceeding with puttying, check the quality of fixing the screws.
- Such a check can be carried out using a spatula, which is carried out on a vertical row of self-tapping screws screwed into drywall. If the spatula moves smoothly and without jerking on drywall, the characteristic metallic sounds are completely absent, this indicates that the screws are twisted qualitatively. Otherwise, it is necessary to tighten the screws.
- In the process of lining drywall sheets (see Facing walls with plasterboard sheets in different ways) Do not overzealous and twist the screws. You can determine which screws are twisted visually. If the self-tapping screw is recessed more than half of the sheet, it must be unscrewed, the existing hole should be repaired with putty, and the screw should be screwed in next.
- A new fixation point for the self-tapping screw should be located at least 4 centimeters from the putty hole.
The choice of putty
In specialized construction stores, the range of putty is extremely wide (see Putties for walls and ceilings - choose wisely) Homeowners can easily purchase ready-made putties and dry mixes.
Caution: It should be remembered that dry mixes must be diluted immediately before use in full accordance with the requirements of the instructions.
So:
- When choosing a putty, first of all, evaluate the humidity level in the room and the expected temperature. Without taking into account these two factors, you will not be able to choose the right putty, and, therefore, your repair will be short-lived.
- Another important characteristic of putty is its strength. The rigidity of the structure depends on the number of seams and the quality of the joints. That is why, even at the stage of sheathing the surface with sheets of drywall, it is necessary to adjust the material to each other with the highest quality.
- When choosing a putty for residential premises, it is necessary to pay attention to environmental performance. Most varieties of putties are safe for humans. At the same time, it would be useful to ask if the seller has the appropriate certificate. If you have any doubts about the environmental friendliness of your chosen putty, we recommend that you abandon such a dubious choice.
Putty Technology
It is recommended to putty the surface in a room with a certain temperature range, which are indicated on the instructions for a specific working mixture. Also in the room there should be no drafts.
The sequence of work when puttying:
- We remove small scratches and dust from the drywall surface. You can use a brush or dry cloth for this work.
- The place of joints and twisted screws is treated with a special primer. This will protect the metal elements from corrosion and improves adhesion with putty.
- You will need to use fiberglass tape, which is necessary for reinforcing joints. This tape is self-adhesive, which makes it easy to perform this work. It is recommended to fix the tape additionally with putty.
- After waiting for the putty to dry on the seams, they must be treated with a primer (see Drywall primer - why is it needed) Then we put a bandage made of paper tape. Perform such a bandage is not difficult. Apply a thin layer of glue to the seam and moisten the paper tape. We fix one edge of the tape on top and gradually glue the bandage to the joint with a spatula. Carrying out this work, it is necessary to act carefully, avoiding the appearance of folds and small air bubbles.
Subsequently, the dried paper tape is sealed with finishing putty.
- After finishing work with the seams, you can begin to apply the first layer of putty. To obtain the most even and high-quality surface, it is recommended to apply three or more layers of putty. Apply the next layer of the composition only after the previous one has dried. This will allow you to ensure the maximum quality of the repair work and their durability.
- It is convenient to apply the putty on the surface with a small spatula, and it is easiest to level the material on the wall with a wide tool. The wider you use the putty knife, the less material joints and joints will be on the surface of the walls. This will allow you to get the most even and high-quality surface. At the same time, let's say that working with a large spatula without having the appropriate skills is somewhat difficult.
Attention: It is recommended to use side lighting, which will allow you to see all the joints and irregularities. For this work, you can use a portable lamp, which is located at a minimum distance from the walls. Light falling at such an acute angle will reveal all the flaws and then quickly eliminate them.
- Aligning the surface (see Aligning the walls with putty in accordance with all the rules) it is necessary to dry it qualitatively. After that we process problem areas with a special painting grater. Such a grater will give the wall maximum smoothness.
- At the final stage of the work, wallpapering or painting of drywall sheets is carried out.
Putty Consumption
The cost of filling the walls for painting will not be expensive. Especially if puttying of the walls is done for painting yourself, then the entire cost will depend only on the amount of material.
Then the price will not be high:
- It is difficult to indicate any exact data on the consumption of putty when processing walls. In this case, the consumption of material depends on the size of the structure, its condition and the experience of the performer.
- On average, we putty 1 square meter of surface takes about 300 grams of material. It is such data on consumption that should be guided in calculating the amount of material used.
Putty of external corners
The greatest difficulty when carrying out puttying of the surface is external angles:
Attention: Before starting work with external corners it is recommended to carry out additional training. In specialized stores, it is necessary to purchase metal perforated corners mounted in the following sequence:
- The workpiece is cut to the size of the corners.
- Putty is put on the work surface of the lower corner and a metal corner is pressed into the putty until it stops. No air should remain under the corner.
- Building level set vertical and horizontal.
- Putty is leveled, which stood out through holes in the corner.
- Putty the surface of the wall and align the angle.
Putty of internal corners
The quality of the puttying of the outer corners of the walls finished with plasterboard, largely depends on the observance of the installation technology of the reinforced corner. In addition, you can use a narrow aluminum perforated corner, which sits on the glue.
Instructions for finishing the outer corner:
- It should be remembered that the outer corner of the drywall structures must withstand mechanical stress and small impacts.
- To increase the strength of the structure, plastic or iron corners are used.
- Putty must be applied from top to bottom and make the first layer fairly narrow. It is recommended to work with a small spatula.
- The application of the next layer is possible only after the putty has dried. Proceed as carefully as possible when cleaning and sanding corners.
- You can damage the edges of drywall with a sharp spatula, so you need to act as carefully as possible. After the putty has dried, it is necessary to grind the external corners and subsequently proceed to polish the wall plane.
This work does not represent any significant complexity and can be carried out independently. Remember only that it is necessary to observe the maximum accuracy, this will allow you to perform all the work with the highest quality.
