- Acrylic and latex paints. They have a very elastic structure, due to which they can overlap small cracks on the surface with a width of up to 1 mm when applied in two layers. - Silicone paints. Today it is the best thing you can choose when deciding how to paint the ceiling in the bathroom, but silicone-based paint is very expensive. But the high cost is fully justified by its positive properties such as vapor permeability, resistance to high humidity and sudden changes in temperature, the ability to repel dirt and is easy to clean. At the same time, it can be applied to mineral plaster, old silicone or acrylic coatings without the need to remove them from the surface, covering already wider cracks in two passes - up to 2 mm.
- Silicate paints. They do not have the elasticity of the two previous species, which will not allow them to get rid of small surface defects. But it will protect the ceiling in a humid room from the formation and development of mold. For their application, preliminary treatment with antiseptic agents is not required.
Colour
Most water-based paints are available in white, since most often they are used to decorate ceilings. Other shades can be found on sale, but there are not many. If you need some special, you can always paint yourselfby adding pigment to it.
Tip. Of course, before painting the ceiling in the bathroom, you need to determine the color of the walls so that the surfaces are combined with each other.And after giving the paint the desired shade, it is advisable to make a trial color to make sure that the color of the dried surface matches the plan.
Now in many stores selling coatings, paint tinting services are provided for free or for a very small fee. In this case, the result will exactly match the tone you selected in the palette.
But if the possibility of automated mixing of paint with pigment is not - it does not matter. This can be done independently by adding color to the bulk, gradually and thoroughly mixing them. The main thing is to immediately tint the entire volume necessary for painting the ceiling, since it is hardly possible to accurately repeat the result manually.

You should not buy materials from unknown manufacturers about which it is impossible to find any information.
If the products of such popular brands as Tikkurila, Deluxe, Kaparol, Tex and others seem too expensive to you, you can choose other brands, making sure that:
- Such a manufacturer really exists. Reputable companies will definitely have their own website on the Internet;
- Reviews of the materials are mostly positive;
- The seller can provide documents confirming the quality of the goods;
- The packaging contains instructions for using the paint, as well as the date of manufacture and expiration date.
And of course it’s better to buy any materials in specialized stores, and not in the markets. Cheap paint in the end will cost much more, since it will require more for high-quality coating, and it will not last long.
Paint the ceiling
If the ceiling is even, painting it will not be difficult. Difficulties can arise if it requires alignment, removal of mold, sealing joints and cracks. But this work can be done independently if you wish.
Surface preparation
Prepare the following tools and materials:
- Narrow and wide spatula;
- Sandpaper;
- Step-ladder;
- Overalls;
- Wide brush;
- Primer with antifungal additives;
- Finishing putty.

After the putty has dried, the surface must be sanded with sandpaper (see How to grind walls after putty and how to do it right) to get rid of sagging and scratches and achieve perfect smoothness. Then the ceiling is primed again.
Painting
For the main stage, you will need paint, water to dilute it to the desired consistency, a paint tray, a short-nap roller and a small brush.
