How to paint a house with a spray gun

Which spray gun to paint the house or the fence will depend on you. In principle, anyone can, but they have their own differences, which allow you to make a rather different coating. Therefore, we will consider how to choose a spray gun for painting a house. Indeed, such sprayers have three main types.

After the selection, all the work can well be done with your own hands, and from this the final price of the work will be much lower.

Sphere of application of spray guns

The airbrush is a tool designed to spray or spray various liquids. During repair work, it can be used for applying paint, varnish, and primer (seeTypes of construction primers and their scope), enamel or liquid putty. In addition to construction work, it can be used to spray shrubs or plants, as well as for spraying detergents or disinfectants.

The use of a spray gun gives a lot of advantages during repair and other works:

  • Speed - airbrush significantly reduces the time spent on painting or puttying the surface;
  • Quality - the use of a spray gun allows you to apply materials in a uniform layer;
  • Cost-effectiveness - the use of a spray makes it possible to reduce the consumption of materials used;
  • Labor cost reduction - applying materials using a spray gun requires less effort than using rollers or brushes in the work.

Attention: Evenly painted coating, which is created using a spray gun, will become a disadvantage in the case of poorly performed work on leveling the surface.

Under a thin layer of paint, even slight irregularities will be visible. Therefore, if a spray gun is used to paint a house with a spray gun, it is very important to monitor the quality preparation before painting.

Varieties of spray guns

The choice of a spray gun should be done on what exactly you have to paint. After all, there are three types (see Types of spray guns: how to choose the right) Their price is different and scope too. Let's get to know them better.

Manual spray gun

Device hand spray gun quite uncomplicated. Most of these devices consist of a cylindrical body, inside of which a pump is located, and two hoses are attached to the body.

  • The purpose of the first hose is to draw paint or other material from an external reservoir, and the second to spray or spray using a spray gun attached to the end. A few taps on the handle create pressure and activate the spray gun.
  • Most construction spray guns are equipped with fishing rods that are long enough for painting surfaces at heights of up to 4 meters. In addition, some models provide the ability to change the length of the handle.
  • Such a spray gun for painting a fence or just a wall will fit without problems. It will just be necessary to apply the coating evenly. But if the plane is very large, then the electric option is better.

Attention: Manual spray guns are convenient in that they can be used in rooms where it is not possible to connect to the mains.

Pneumatic spray gun

The pneumatic sprayer is a device having a body in the form of a gun with a trigger that opens the air valve.

Attention: The most important part of the design is the spray head with a nozzle, where the solution intended for application and compressed air are fed through the channels. The uniformity of the application of the dye will depend on his choice.

  • The device has several regulators: to change the shape of the torch, the amount of paint and air pressure. The solution for application comes at a low speed, and a stream of air with a large.
  • When mixed, the solution is crushed and flies out of the nozzle opening in the form of a jet of tiny droplets that uniformly cover the surface to be treated. Such a jet is called a torch; its shape can be adjusted from round to flat.
  • According to the method of supplying the solution, several types of spray guns are distinguished: with a top mount of the tank, with a bottom mount or with the forced supply of materials from an external container through a special hose.

Electric spray gun

This type of spray gun is used more often than others, as it has high efficiency and speed of staining. Compactness and lightness of the tool provide ease and usability.

Electric spray guns can be equipped with a spray nozzle of a sufficiently large size. This means that they can be used for applying viscous materials and water-based paints.

Electric spray guns are divided into air types and airless:

  • In air-type devices, the principle of applying paint or other solutions is determined by the design features of the device.
  • In tools with an upper or lower container mount, atomization occurs due to the discharge that creates air; and in devices with a built-in pump - with the help of air, which is pumped into the pump.
  • Low pressure does not provide a sufficient pressure of the liquid from the tank and causes a low rate of transfer of the substance to the treated surface. The smallest particles of a solution collide with air and are not able to overcome it. Due to this, a foggy cloud of paint is formed, which impedes visibility and interferes with the accuracy of the solution.
  • In airless devices, the solution is sprayed at a sufficiently high pressure. To do this, the devices have a high-pressure hose, as well as a nozzle with a very small cross-section for supplying solutions. This method of operation allows the use of a spray gun for spraying sufficiently viscous substances.
  • High pressure provides opportunities for maximum transfer of paint to the surface, despite the resistance of the air. Due to this, airless devices can be used at some distance from the surface to be treated and the formation of fog is avoided.
  • Airless models are inferior to air-type devices in the quality of painting. If the pressure is too high or the nozzle is not the right size, the paint will bounce off the surface instead of lying down evenly. Therefore, in order to get a high-quality coating, it is important to choose the right pressure and nozzle size.

Attention: Painting a house with a spray gun of this type or other large objects will be the best option. Everything can be done efficiently and in a short time.

Important points when choosing a spray gun

When choosing a spray gun, pay attention to the performance of the device:

  • Tank volume - This indicator determines the operating time without interruptions, without refueling. The volume of the average tank of pneumatic spray guns is from 0.5 to 1 liter; electric - 1 - 1.5 liters; manual - 2.5 liters;
  • Tank material - the performance of a transparent or translucent material allows you to monitor the amount of remaining solution;
  • Nozzle size - it is important to choose the right one depending on the sprayed solution: a nozzle with a diameter of 0.5 to 1.3 mm is suitable for basic coatings; for varnishes and acrylic paints - not more than 1.6 mm; for liquid putties and primers - not more than 2.8 mm;
  • Performance - this parameter shows the efficiency of the transfer of sprayed solutions to the surface and, accordingly, the speed of work;
  • Pressure - an important indicator that determines the speed and quality of work performed, as well as determining the possibility of using various materials;
  • Product Material - an important parameter when choosing a tool. The reliability and duration of its operation depend on the quality of the materials of the spray gun;
  • Device weight - determines the convenience and time of use.

Attention: At some points a moisture separator is provided for the spray gun, it is sometimes quite useful. And if you need a tool for work, then it is better to have one.

Rules for working with a spray gun

In the process of using the spray gun, it is very important to adhere to several simple rules in order to achieve a high-quality uniform coating:

  • When painting the surface, do not linger for a long time in one place - drops and smudges can form, which can subsequently peel off;
  • The spray jet should be directed perpendicular to the surface being treated, since an incorrect angle of inclination contributes to overuse of sprayed materials and their subsidence on surrounding surfaces;
  • The movement of the spray during painting should be carried out across the length of the treated surface with the most parallel passages;
  • The distance from the spray gun to the painted surface is from 15 to 20 cm, and depends on the type of sprayer and the type of material applied;
  • If you intend to apply the paint in two layers, then you must wait until the first layer has completely dried and then proceed to re-stain;
  • When working, make sure that there are no fibers, lumps or other contaminants.

Attention: The spray gun with the regulators must be set up and tested before starting work. It is very important to set the appropriate pressure and shape of the torch, as well as adjust the flow of paint. Before painting the main surface, it is best to try to spray the substance in some other area to make sure the spray gun is correctly set up.

  • If during the work defects formed in the form of bubbles or extraneous stains, they can be corrected. Places of cracked bubbles should be cleaned and puttyed (see How to putty walls in different versions), sanded and repainted. Fine specks or fibers can simply be carefully removed.
  • In addition to observing the operating rules, it is very important to ensure proper care of the spray gun. Rinse the instrument thoroughly after use to avoid problems the next time you use it. Keep the spray gun in a dry place. If the use of the device is not planned for a long time, then it is better to disassemble it and carefully clean all the details.

Attention: What pressure you need for the spray gun you determine from the viscosity of the dye. This is all done by trial methods.
