Stacking clinker tiles for stairs

Any metal staircase requires decoration, since its steps do not have an attractive appearance. Very often, clinker or porcelain tiles are used for such work.

Properties of clinker tiles and porcelain tiles

These materials are similar in their properties and characteristics. They are moisture resistant and very practical. The surface of the tiles does not require special care and thereby increases the popularity of this material.

Tile strength is also high. On their surface, they can have various imitations of finishing materials.

Surface coating may be:

  • Embossed or structural.
  • Matte or glossy.
  • Grungy.

Tip. To finish the flooring or stairs, it is best to use clinker or porcelain tiles with a rough surface, since it does not slip.

Features:

  • The tile does not burn and tolerates all the effects of temperature extremes and high humidity in the room.
  • Installation of such material is possible only on a flat surface. If you want to trim the steps of the stairs with clinker tiles, then the finishing technologies can be different.

Types of structures
Types of structures

There are two types of metal stair steps.:

  • Empty (framed only by a metal corner).
  • One-piece (made of metal sheets).

The method of mounting on the steps of the tile is differente:

  • Clinker tiles cannot be mounted immediately on empty steps. It will be necessary to make a basis for such a finish. For this, a concrete solution is used, with which the steps will be poured in a small layer. Previously, under the base of each step, a wooden base is constructed, which, after solidification of the solution, is dismantled.
  • Only after that it will be possible to mount clinker tiles. You can use the same concrete solution or special glue for this.

Tip. If the stairs are on the street, then the glue must be moisture resistant.

  • As for solid metal steps, it is also worth initially applying a small layer of concrete mortar on their surface, the thickness of which does not exceed 0.5-1 cm. Then the surface is primed and only then clinker tile is mounted on it.

Tip. Before such work, the staircase structure should already be painted, since if such work is already carried out after tile installation, there is an option to spoil the surface of the material with drops of paint

  • Step filling works are carried out using a building level to ensure a flat surface for tile installation. You can also use special additives that will help speed up the process of solidification of concrete.

To prepare a concrete solution you will need: sand, Portland cement grade 400 and water. Proportions: 1 bucket of Portland cement to 3 buckets of peeled sand. Water is added to the specific consistency that is required.
