Video application of decorative plaster bark beetle
We offer novice masters to see photos and video “Application of decorative bark beetle plaster”. This will help to visually see the sequence of operations, types of tools used, techniques for applying the mixture to the surface. After a detailed acquaintance with the process, an inexperienced plasterer will be able to do the job with his own hands correctly. Applying decorative bark beetle plaster requires practical skills and special rules.
It is difficult to achieve the desired texture without experience. One minor mistake sometimes leads to a complete loss of the aesthetic appeal of the finish. The video in this article will help to avoid the wrong steps, correctly prepare the walls for plastering and get the desired decorative effect. You will learn what tool will be needed and how to choose the right material, and how to apply Bark beetle plaster correctly.

Material selection
Many brands produce bark beetles; the range of decorative plasters in stores is diverse. High consumer demand is enjoyed by the products of companies:
- Bolars;
- BaumitSilikonTop;
- Ceresite;
- Will establish;
- Prospectors
- CaparolFassadenputz;
- Unis
- Knauf
- Volma.
Manufacturers supply acrylic, cement-polymer and gypsum plasters to the market. The price of the material depends on the composition, packing volume and commodity form.
To understand how to properly apply the bark beetle plaster, you need to know the principle of obtaining a relief pattern. Acrylic-based compounds are already ready for use, gypsum plaster is a dry mix for self-preparation of a solution. The relief pattern of the coating is obtained due to solid mineral granules ranging in size from one to three and a half millimeters. The larger the fractions of marble or stone chips in the composition of the plaster, the deeper the textured grooves of the finishing layer.
The texture of the finished coating depends on the composition and type of plaster. Therefore, already at the stage of material selection, it is necessary to take into account the future design and surface color, determine the optimal type of plaster for a specific task.
How to apply decorative bark beetle plaster: stages of work
Surface preparation
Before applying decorative bark beetle plaster (the video clearly demonstrates this process), the surface is thoroughly cleaned of dust, dirt and grease stains. Further surface preparation includes:
- treatment of areas with fungal mold with a special antiseptic;
- sealing cracks, chips and potholes with a cement mortar;
- surface leveling with deviations of more than 2 mm;
- primer.
Checking the plane level is a two-meter rule. For filling cracks, putty mixture is used. The primer composition is selected on the recommendation of the plaster manufacturer (indicated on the package).
For the bark beetle mixture, plastering is acceptable on cinder block, concrete and brick walls. The base should be flat and dense, without signs of shrinkage. For facing a wooden house, this type of material is unsuitable.
Kneading solution
If you decide to buy not a ready-made plaster, but a dry mix, you will need a plastic bucket with a volume of 10 l and water at a temperature of about 20 degrees. Before applying decorative gypsum-based bark beetle plaster, read the instructions for preparing the solution on the package.Exact observance of the proportions of the mixture and water is the main condition for obtaining a working consistency of the mass. Measure the indicated amount of water, pour into a bucket and pour the powder into it in small portions. Kneading is performed with a drill with a nozzle for 3 minutes until a homogeneous paste is obtained. Then the mixture settles for 5 minutes, and the mixing procedure is repeated.
Tinting
Select the color in advance and add it gradually to the solution during the mixing process to the desired shade. Make sure that all inclusions dissolve without residue, and there are no heterogeneous streaks in the plaster. When decorating the facade of the building, the plaster mass is applied to the wall without tinting, and after drying, the plaster is covered with facade paint. Tinting is used only for silicone and acrylic compounds, but not for gypsum.
Work with the mixture Bark beetle: applying plaster to the surface
For plastering work, two tools will be needed: a metal spatula with a blade width of 10 cm and a 30-cm trowel. Before finishing, we recommend that you carefully study through the video how to apply Bark beetle plaster, and remember the technique of manipulating tools.
It is convenient to apply a portion of the solution to the trowel with a narrow spatula. Carefully attach the filled half-up to the wall (at an angle of 30 degrees) and move from top to bottom along the plane of the wall. The pressure force at all points should be the same, and the layer thickness should be no less than the size of the mineral granules. Vertical striping is performed with overlapping the edges of the previous strip by 7 mm. All areas of the dock should maintain uniform humidity, otherwise after drying the transitions will become visually noticeable. Stir the solution in a bucket after applying each portion, raise the sediment of the filler from the bottom.
It is rational to perform work together with an assistant and act in parallel: one prepares a solution, the second is applied to the wall. So you avoid local drying of the plaster.
Texture Creation
The pattern is formed 10-15 minutes after the application of decorative bark beetle plaster is finished on one wall (the video clearly shows the technique of creating different textured patterns). Using a plastic grater, make unidirectional uniform movements on wet plaster. On the surface should not be at the time of formation of the texture of visible gloss. In one area, they are not graded for the second time, fragments are processed at one time not wider than one and a half meters. Docking edges moisturize with water.
Options for stucco patterns:
- rain (vertical movement from top to bottom);
- diagonal rain (movement from top to left from corner down to right);
- carpet texture (alternating vertical and horizontal movements);
- karakul (circular waves);
- cork texture (circular unidirectional movements with a foam grater).
Within two days the plaster dries, and no work is carried out with it. For acrylic composition with tinting, this is the final stage. For other species, finishing is done.
Finish finish
The surface is ground with a fine-grained abrasive, unaesthetic protrusions are trimmed, residual crumbs are removed from the solution. Cement-polymer plaster after polishing is primed, waiting to dry and painted with acrylic or silicone paint. A long-nap roller or brush is used, the paint layers are applied first with vertical movements, then horizontal.
Useful Tips
- Choose primers, putties, plasters and paints of the same brand.
- Start the finish with an inconspicuous part of the wall.
- Finish the outer walls in dry weather at a temperature of 5 to 30 degrees Celsius and humidity not higher than 60%.
- In hot weather, spray the plaster daily with water to dry evenly.
- Stick the strips of masking tape on the perimeter of the finished area when you start work with the next fragment.
