Natural materials
Despite the variety of more modern finishing materials, many people remain committed to traditional natural materials, or at least imitations of them. And one of them is stone.
Stone decor
The masonry is not only beautiful, but also creates a feeling of inviolability of the walls. Long gone are the days when castles were erected from stone.
But the interior of the facing stone still attracts many property owners:
- On the example at the beginning of our article, a common room in the cottage is shown, combining the lobby and the living room. This interior with stone cladding is just perfect for a country house.
- As in most cases, the stone is not used for continuous finishing, but is combined with other material. In this case, with a tree, which is lined with a wall along a flight of stairs.
- Wall decoration indoors it is often performed by inexpensive rubble stone. And it's not at all the price.
With the right creative approach, such an interior will look stylish and even exclusive. From the example above, you can see how beautiful the kitchen-dining room looks, the walls of which are decorated with wild stone. - Masonry itself has a certain monotony, which simply needs to be diluted with other types of finishes. In this interior, this role was played by decorative niches of an interesting shape, decorated with a stencil pattern.
- A natural stone, most often, used in the interior for facing stoves, fireplaces, and adjacent walls, as well as for decorating bathrooms. In this case, valuable types of stone are often used: marble, onyx, jasper, malachite.
- The stone intended for facing is issued in the form of plates of the correct geometric shape with a smoothly polished surface. The preparation of the walls before installation must be carried out carefully, for laying stone tiles a perfectly flat surface is required.
- Take a look at the image above and you will see the interior of the cladding bathroom, and quite a large area where the onyx is decorated with a whole wall. These types of stones have a dense structure and are not afraid of moisture.
- Therefore, they are often used not only for decorating walls or floors, but also for facing the bathtubs themselves, and countertops of washbasins. Not everyone can afford such a design - the price is quite high.
But there are many people whom she does not frighten at all. - The interior is not only walls. In a private house, or apartment on two levels, a staircase is also part of the interior, the steps of which can also be made of stone.
And not only steps, but also railings and balusters, as well as landings. We will give you an example where the facing stone in the interior is used not only to decorate the stairs, but also the walls of the lobby.
Just used different types of stone.
- With the task of decorative wall decoration, it copes well and fake diamond. In appearance, it is sometimes impossible to distinguish from natural stone.
Its advantage, first of all, is low weight. After all, if the interior with a facing stone provides for wall decoration from floor to ceiling, the load on the weight of the stone will be significant. - Another advantage of artificial stone is the fact that it can be produced at home. This is true for those cases when facing large areas.
On our site there is an instruction that talks about the technology of creating stone, as well as its installation. Read, watch videos, and do it yourself. And we will talk about design.
- Various panels are created from decorative stone and the facing of individual structural elements is produced. It can be interior arches and walkways, balconies and loggias or, as in our case, a window sill in which indoor plants are concentrated.
- Interior design with facing stone, may have the most unexpected color schemes. Fortunately, in its manufacture, pigments and dyes can be added to the mixture for molding artificial stone tiles.
And here is an example of a room with a wall lined with a black stone in appearance similar to anthracite.
- Some types of natural stone, such as tufa, sandstone, dolomite, have a porous structure. Therefore, they are not used as floor coverings and steps.
Porous stone has a higher coefficient of abrasion than, for example, marble. - In addition, these types of natural stone do not like moisture, since water enters their pores and promotes the growth of microorganisms. Such a stone requires protection in the form of hydrophobic impregnation.
But for interior design they are just perfect. Such a stone is cut not in the form of plates, but in small bricks, leaving their front surface rough.
A wall with such a cladding is similar to brickwork, and looks great both inside the house and on the facade. The interior of apartments with a white facing stone, such as dolomite, for example, is simply magnificent in a contrasting combination. You can see such a design in the example above.
Mostly inexpensive types of stone are artificially produced. In any case, as a consumer goods. Such a material, by and large, is also natural, since mixtures for its manufacture contain only organic components: sand, stone and expanded clay aggregate, cement.
Most types of stone are mined in our country. But there are rare breeds, incredibly beautiful and very expensive. It will not work to make such an analogue at home, but enterprises that are engaged in the production of artificial stone, of course, can fulfill such an order. As they say, any whim for your money.
Wood cladding
Wood, like stone, is very attractive for creating interiors, and often these two materials are perfectly combined. Facing interiors is not only a clapboard.
Although with its help, with the right approach, you can create a beautiful design.
- New types of wood materials are appearing. And sometimes, designers offer non-trivial solutions for using floor coverings for wall cladding, and even ceilings.
And they take root! Now you will not surprise anyone that in interior design parquet board is not used for its intended purpose. - And in confirmation of these words, we present you an example of such a finish. In this case, the room has a suspended ceiling and a plasterboard partition.
In the central part of the wall and ceiling, a shallow niche is made, which is sheathed with parquet board. With the same success, the facade and deck boards are used in the same way.
Why not lining, you ask? The answer is obvious.
Parquet board, unlike lining, is veneered with veneer of precious wood, has a pronounced wood pattern, and looks much more interesting. Lining, not counting the class of "extra", can most likely be attributed to the budget types of finishes.
The front board is made of hardwood: larch, ash, maple. It is more durable, almost not afraid of moisture.
That is why it is used for cladding facades. In the interior decoration, this type of plank, also called plank, is used in the design of vestibules, corridors, and bathrooms.
Facing interior decoration can be performed not only with the help of a board, but also with all kinds of panels. We are now focusing only on wooden options, which are also many.
We all know about classic wood panels, which used to be mainly used for office decoration. Today, with their help, they create interiors in the English and classical styles, in the modern and art deco styles.
They are combined with wallpaper and decorative plaster. There are options for panels covered in fabric.
The price range for this type of cladding is quite large - it all depends on the cost of raw materials, the design of the panel itself.
The most expensive are the panels of solid wood of valuable species. They can be inlaid, decorated with carvings and gilding.
There are simpler options - from MDF coated with wood, bamboo, or cork veneer. The most budget option is plywood or chipboard panels with a laminated surface.
The configuration of the panels can be different, have a rectangular or square shape. They can be mounted both on the wall and on the ceiling. But floor options are most often made using polymers.
This increases their strength, which is simply necessary for the floor. There are precedents for the use of such panels for wall decoration, in the photo below it is clearly visible.
But there are also such options for wooden panels that are used only for the decor of a small fragment of the wall. These are carved, almost lace panels, which may well be done manually.
Such decor will decorate any room, you can see for yourself.
The tree can be used in any room of the house, and never be repeated - that's why the material is good. Beautiful texture, pleasant aroma, the possibility of various types of processing make it almost indispensable in the decoration of residential premises.
We hope that you were able to choose a good option for yourself. And we wish him a successful embodiment.
