Types of wood panels that are used in the decoration of the apartment
Apartment decoration wood panels can be made in any design. Due to the fact that there is a diverse design of such material, it is possible to create unique interiors with its help.
Wooden wall panels for interior decoration can be:
- Made of pure wood that have different surfaces.
- Fiberboard panels, which are distinguished by their practicality.
- Chipboard panels.
- MDF panels.
Materials have almost the same properties and characteristics, but different design.
Wood trim panels
This material is made from coniferous trees and can have different thicknesses. Wood panels have excellent characteristics.
They are:
- Environmentally friendly, and not able to emit substances harmful to human health.
- Due to their structure, wood panels even with the same application have different designs.
- Durable, as they can withstand quite large loads. With proper installation it is very easy to mount any decorative elements on them.
- Durable, but it depends more on the surface protection of the material.
- Practical, as they can be easily cleaned with a simple rag without the use of detergents.
- They have an aesthetic and attractive appearance.
- Wood panels can be of different sizes and have different surfaces.
- Wood paneling can be done in any room with any functionality.
Tip. Since the tree is very afraid of moisture and over time, even with a protected surface, it will begin to absorb it, it is not recommended to use wooden panels in rooms with high humidity or sharp temperature changes.
You can use this material both on the surface of the walls and on the ceiling. See photos with examples of room decoration with wooden panels.
The surface of wood panels can be varied:
- Matte, which does not shine in the sun, but is covered with a special protective layer.
- Glossy, on which varnish or wax is applied in order to give not only a high degree of surface protection, but also a special shine. Such a surface can very easily be scratched and you need to work with it very carefully.
- Laminate, in which a laminate protective layer is used as a coating.
Very often, veneers are used as overlays on wooden panels. The price of such material is not too low.
Everything is due to expensive and high-quality material that can last for many years.
Installation of wood panels from whole wood
All installation work can be easily done with your own hands, as they are not particularly difficult. For this, the surface is initially prepared.
It is used to make a crate that will provide an air cushion for decoration.
What is it for? Wood freely passes air and steam, and if moisture accumulates on the back of the finish, then over time this will cause destruction or deformation of the appearance of the material.
The lathing is made of:
- Wooden planks of the same diameter so that the crate has even parameters.
- Wood screws and dowels for mounting the crate itself.
- A rotary hammer and screwdriver, which can be easily replaced if necessary with a conventional drill.
- Construction level for the correct and high-quality installation of the lathing.
- Tape measure and pencil.
- Saw or jigsaw.

Fiberboard panels for interior decoration
Wall panels Fiberboard for interior decoration has become popular relatively recently. Despite this, they have already managed to gain some popularity.
All this is due to the excellent properties and characteristics of the material itself.
Characteristics:
- This material is made from pressed wood or plant fibers. On top of the protective layer is a varnish or matte panel. Used fiberboard panels in any room where there is no high humidity.
- The panels are very durable and reliable. They are able to withstand heavy loads. Their surface is reliably protected and due to this it does not absorb moisture. It is quite simply cleaned.
- They have a large assortment of shades and designs. There may even be overlays. This material is mounted quite simply.
The instruction does not exist for such work, but all actions are carried out almost similarly to the installation of wooden panels.
For such work you will need:
- Special metal fasteners in the form of corners.
- Wood screws and dowels.
- Puncher and screwdriver (drill).
- Building level.
- Hacksaw for metal, to trim fasteners if necessary (replaced by metal scissors).
- Electric jigsaw for precise fitting of the fiberboard panel size.
Note. Wall panels for interior decoration of fiberboard are very often used in the design of corridors, living rooms, offices and other premises of this type.
Chipboard panels for decoration
This type of material in its characteristics is significantly different from previous finishes. Despite the fact that it is made of pressed wooden fibers, synthetic substances are added to the production, which make the particleboard panels non-environmentally friendly.
Tip. For this reason, it is not recommended to use them in the design of children's rooms, bedrooms and other premises for personal use.
Characteristics:
- They can release substances harmful to human health.
- They are practical and reliable.
- But here it is worth considering that such a material absorbs moisture freely, and it is strictly forbidden to wash its surface so as not to disturb the outer layer of the finish.
- Their surface may be glossy or matte. Quite often, various imitations and drawings are found on it. Put them on new technologies for the production of panels.
- Mounting chipboard panels is quite simple and all actions are performed similarly to installing fiberboard panels. Preparing and cleaning the surface for such work is not required.
If wall decoration Since wooden panels with various protective layers are possible in any room with any temperature regime, chipboard panels are not recommended for use in those rooms that are wet and have sharp temperature changes. The most optimal option for their use are dry utility rooms.
MDF panels for decoration
MDF panels have long been used in a variety of interior decorating. They are very practical and durable.
They have a wide range of sizes, shades and surface designs. The surface itself in the manufacture is covered with a protective layer and thereby increases their service life.
Features:
- The material of their pressed shavings is made, which makes it environmentally friendly and safe for human health. MDF panels are several times denser than chipboard panels. They are able to withstand heavy loads.
- In addition, the panels act as excellent sound and heat-insulating material, which makes it possible not to carry out additional internal insulation in the apartment and insulation work.
MDF panels:
- Practical, since they are not able to absorb various kinds of pollution and, thanks to the protective layer, not too much moisture.
- They are durable material, the life of which is about 10 years.
- Create a unique design of any room.
- They are not moisture resistant, which makes it impossible to use them in any room in high humidity.
- They are used both on wall and ceiling surfaces.
- Mounted very easy.
Tip. It is best to clean this type of material with a dry, clean cloth and do not use detergents.
In some cases, abrasive cleaners may be used. This is only when the surface of the MDF panels has a three-layer protection.
Mounting MDF panels on the surface
You can carry out the installation of MDF panels yourself. For this, it will not be necessary to prepare the surface.
The only thing you need to check the walls for fungal diseases or mold. If this is, then you need to get rid of it.
This is due to the fact that the tree is capable of having excellent vapor permeability and air exchange. This will be an excellent basis for the further development of a fungal disease.
You can use for such actions:
- Acetic solution.
- A metal brush.
- Rags.
- Water.
- Detergent.
Instruction:
- Initially, the surface is treated with a metal brush, then with vinegar. After that, the surface is washed and dried well.
- Then, special fasteners from a metal profile are mounted on it using dowels and a perforator. By fasteners, the material itself is already mounted with self-tapping screws.
- For the installation of MDF panels, it is possible to use a prefabricated frame of wooden planks of the same diameter.
Tip. If during the finishing works insulation is performed, then on top of the first crate, into the cells of which the insulation is inserted, you need to build a second crate.
Since the material is wood, it needs an air cushion. And to the second crate, the panels are attached with self-tapping screws with decorative hats.
You can also use fasteners. The panels are cut using a jigsaw, which helps save time and energy.
In principle, MDF paneling is done in the same way as wood paneling.
